I noticed unusual color texture (not brown) is saildrive gear oil. (88 hours on oil). Of course I am changing the oil, however I also got it tested to try to understand the issue.
Test showed:
1. higher than normal viscosity 2. higher that normal insolubles (oxidized solids). 3. Aluminum, iron, and copper read high compared to averages.
Has anyone experienced these results and if so what what the diagnosis?
thx!

I'm hoping this is a stupid question, but did you inform the test company that this was gear oil, not normal lubricating oil?

Which model saildrive and what oil are you using?
Reason for asking is certain oils (even ‘approved’ specs) can contribute towards problems in certain drives.
