Was looking more closely at the top of the rudder stock today, checking things over, had not realised the rudder stock is FRP composite, certainty at the top! Thought it was stainless steel!
I have no trouble with it, but just surprised. Are all jeanneau from this age onwards using FRP rudder stocks?

I have pulled the rudder on our 2012 379 and the stock is stainless steel. I find it hard to believe that a 439 of the same year would be FRP.

I’m going to take a closer look lower down when next on the boat. The top of the stock, where the emergency steering handle engages, is definitely composite of some kind, and the section just below, where the steering quadrant connect to the stock, it also looks composite, although can’t be sure. Weird

I seem to remember that some of the sportier boats at our club (not Jeanneaus) had composite rudder stocks. This would certainly eliminate corrosion of the rudder stock and consequent loss of rudder as was the case with Hilma in the middle of the Pacific.

Jeanneau confirmed today that my rudder stock is indeed FRP composite. Seems a lot of the SO series 7 generation (which includes my 439 from 2012) have FRP composite rudder stocks.
