Owner’s aft cabin whiffs of engine / diesel smell after running engine for a while. Have both vents been checked for any leaks ( Electric blower and standard vent ), we have used a citrus degreaser to clean an diesel from the bilges in the past .

Just did engine service inc full cleanup of compartment and bilges. Used to smell last season after use as well.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. I traced it to a loose joint on the fuel return pipe on top of the tank under the bed. It had left a small puddle of diesel. A quick ‘adjustment’ with a screwdriver fixed it. Tim Peacock

I also had a smell and accidentally overfilled the fuel tank which leaked out the fill elbow on the tank. Once I fixed that, I never smelled the odor again.

Probably leading from the top of the fuel tank lol...

Yes, exactly. In my 43DS the fuel tank is the first floor board that opens up. The fuel fill line is quite visible. Until it was overfilled the opening was extremely small and not noticeable. As I said, I have had no odor since. As a reference I sail/motor between 1600 and 2000 miles in the Chesapeake every season - so it gets a work out.

In a two berth version of the 42DS, the fuel fill line can be accessed by removing the headrest panel in the main cabin and opening the panel on the Stbd side of the wall behind the headrest. The headrest is attached with Velcro. The panel opens with a push to extend handle.

Hi NZL8970, We have experienced diesel weeping out of the fuel intake on top of the tank under the starboard side of the aft bed, causing a fuel smell in the aft cabin. In fact, I think we have the same problem now but it is just such a pain to fix I am avoiding it. If the tank is completely full with the fuel filled up the filler tube, the positive pressure on the gasket I think causes them to weep a little. It is very disappointing and in my view, difficult to fix long term. This was my last attempt. jeanneau.proboards.com/thread/6559/fuel-pickups-weeping-attempt-repairRegards, Trevor

Owner’s aft cabin whiffs of engine / diesel smell after running engine for a while. Maybe not very helpful, but while on the subject of diesel smells, our mechanic has a special aerosol which he sprays all over the engine and engine bay after he has carried out an oil change, some kind of anti-diesel air freshener. I have never seen it advertised before but it must be out there somewhere!
