Older style hulls are stronger than the newer pan type hulls?.

I am not an expert, but from what I understand the biggest knock on the glued in pans is that they are very difficult and expensive to repair after serious impacts such as groundings. This is because it is difficult to tell where the bond between hull and pan has separated.
I have also heard that on the larger models they don't use a solid pan, rather they use a grid liner where the spaces between the structural girders are cut out. This allows them to glass the grid structure to the hull rather than just relying on the glue. Presumably this method also makes structural damage easier to detect and repair.
I am not sure which models use the structural grid vs the pans, but I believe the grids are used on the >45' models.

Thank you for your reply. I like the Jeanneau 45.2 & 52.2 but also the Beneteau 473, 59 & 523. Tough choice for me think there is good in all of these yachts. But a bit different in the hull configurations . I want a strong hull that can take some weather if needed. Perhaps they are all good solid yachts .
