I'm now a proud ower of a 2006 Sun 2500. Everything is great except the stiff steering which I'd like to fix over the next 12 months.
I've read up on this common problem and would like to do a proper job on replacing the nylon bearings which as we know slowly expand with moisture causing the stiffness. My question is - if I order from Jeanneau, will it be the same Nylon material? I don't want the same problem 10 years on. Anyone know of better quality bearings that will fit and not expand.
Secondly anyone had this done by their local yard - approximate cost?
Good Sailing All !

Hi Allstar2500,
Congratulations on your new purchase and welcome to the forum.
If you browse the archives you will find several posts on rudder bearings. It is not particular to a specific boat model.
Many have had success at least for a starting point with some lubrication. If you look at a few relevant posts you will find out what people have found works and what does not.
With a bit of luck some suitable lubricant will allow you to do some sailing before you need to undertake too much in the way of repairs, but of course it is always wise to be guided by your own careful observation.
Many great adventures await you and we all enjoy sharing
