Greetings from a newbie Jeanneau owner!
Some time spent browsing this site helped me seal-the-deal to buy an Espace 1000 - so a big "thanks" to the multitude of posters whose threads and responses I've browsed.
She's 1984 vintage, fixed-keel and slightly "tired" - but as my first boat, is also exciting and full of promise. Well - at least once I fix a few things and she gets from the current car-park to her mooring!
Why the Espace? - I have dreams of visiting friends in Norway during norther-lights season. Cloudy nights near the artic circle are cold!
Following in from the above, part of the deliberate reason for a "tired" example (aside from budget) was that I would get to learn her inside & out while fixing+refreshing stuff - and gaining practical experience, rather than rushing out on the water and probably into the arms of the RNLI. I gather the North Sea can be a little unforgiving of newbies!
As for me: I'm an early 70's vintage and - having learned the art of sailing on the Broads in the 80's - duly failed to do anthying with it until this year. As such, I'm currently at maximum capacity for naivety & enthusiasm, with a limited amount of experience to hold it together.
Together we'll get to see how it pans out down here in the South-East of England...

Hi Thorfildur, a very warm welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your purchase. As you have already found, there is a wealth of information here, and plenty of friendly like minded people to help you out.
You have great adventures planned out, and while Norway might not be first on the list to try, there is nothing in the world so much worth doing as mucking around in boats, while you are doing the preparation, and every small adventure advances your preparation.
And thank you for posting such a great introduction. You have set the standard for others to follow.
