Reluctantly we are going to curtail our intended circumnavigation in New Zealand for health reasons. Our much cherished SO 45 is for sale. Aztec Dream is a 2007 (2008 Model year) 3 cabin yacht and we have kept a blog about our experiences, warts and all, which you can see on the link in the signature.
We are now in the Pacific, on route to Tonga and New Zealand during October.
Hi , really interested in what you have done to you SO45 to take long term cruising . I purchased a 2 cabin 2007 version 2 years ago with the view to go long term sailing next year . I have done so many upgrades ( through hulls, standing rigging, electronics , sails etc)but now I’m at the stage at looking at my power source . I would love it if you could send me some pictures of how you have had your arch made and fixed on the boat. Your davit set up and where and how many batteries you have . Also did you upgrade the alternator and how many watts you have in solar . Any other great tips would be much appreciated . Sorry to jump on you like this but I so want to get this right Many thanks Darrell , email is. firstname.lastname@example.org
Just realised our lengthy responses to dazthesailor, were done by return over a pm rather than on the forum reply.
Fair comment about the solar. In the Med, this would have been something we would have addressed. However, we found the wind generator invaluable in the Caribbean, as daylight hours are much shorter and you are almost guaranteed 15 knots min every day. Also, on long passages, we are now in Tonga, we use our Duogen in water mode, a truly fantastic product, backed up with great customer service.
