While sailing yesterday the autopilot stopped working. The error message is rudder response failure. I reset the unit and out in all new parameters. The system delivers the same fault and did not keep the setup parameters I entered. Has anyone had this happen to them and if so what is the fix. The manual just lists the fault but not what to check. We are out for the week sailing so I’m keen to get the autopilot back online.

Also the ap24 fails the rudder drive test and does not keep boat type parameter.

I have had good success with email exchanges with the Navico tech support group for problems I have encountered with a number of NSS8 functions. Try waynerichey@navico.com. Good luck and let us know if it works out ok.

It’s fixed and a word of warning to others. The swivel yoke that attaches the hydraulic ram to the rudder became unscrewed. It was still attached to the rudder but not the ram. I got superb service from PYI who sent pictures of the parts as they were supposed to look. The service tech said it was likely caused by the installer not using a thread compound and not tightening the locking nut appropriately. It’s an easy thing to check which I will add to my pre departure checklist.

Glad to hear the repair was straight forward and not costly. Who are PYI? Cheers

The exact same thing happened to us when we bought our 41DS. No threadlocker was used and I am pretty sure the installer didn't tighten it properly in the first place.
