Just recently I noticed that the heating system on my SO 439 is working even after disconnecting all batteries (starter&service) by using the main swiches. Is that normal and if so, what is the reason for that? I thought that after disconnecting the main switches all systems on board should be down.

Often wired direct so even if the switches are turned off the shut down procedure can continue the cooling cycle and prevent overheat damage v

Perfect. In combination with directly connected solar cells it allows heating until the fuel tank is empty.

Perfect. In combination with directly connected solar cells it allows heating until the fuel tank is empty. Only if you leave the heat turned on! Mine is wired direct. There is definitely a cool down period after you turn the heat off before the fan shuts down. I suspect a lot of people are in the habit of just switching the panel off and leaving the boat. If you kill the power to the heater while it is in high fire you will cook your heater. That to me is a far greater risk than accidentally leaving it on and burning some of your fuel supply!

Are there other systems that are typically directly connected and not through the main switches?

Our boat was made in 2000 if it matters Direct connect to power are the furnace, LP gas valve, AMFM radio memory, bilge pump system. To disconnect any of these we must pull out the appropriate fuse.
