I have the standard Fusion Audio Hub on my SO 439 and I am not so happy with it, mainly for three reasons.
1) The volume control for inside/oudside is way too complicate. It always requires a reprogramming of the Fusion remote. Mostly we are to unpatient to do that and skip listening to music. :-(
2) No Bluetooth connectivity. Fore sure this can be corrected with a simple Bluetooth adaptor on the Aus Input but then I still have Problem 1.
3) Limitations on the USB port and on ipod. Today I have a 16 GB iPod in the Docking station but I would like to have a bigger music library available.
I wonder what would be the best upgrade strategy. The big shot would be a Fusion Apollo RA770 but it might be oversized? Is there a smaller but still very good option?

Not sure if this the same product as yours, but my 439 came with SonicHub (badged as B&G but made by Fusion). Had it replaced twice under warranty then B&G offered me a SonicHub-2, which is actually made by B&G (or Lowrance or Simrad).
Generally, the new device is better as it has built-in Bluetooth and dual USB ports. The new device had same physical foot print as old device and was plug & play but sadly did not support the Fusion Wired remote (MS-WR600C) so now I have a dead remote mounted at the Nav station. Fortunately my B&G plotters have an audio feature that allows me to display and control the SonicHub-2.
Anybody interested in a lightly used Fusion Wired Remote (MS-WR600C)?

Unfortunately the pre-owner of my ship installed a Garmin system which cannot control Audio :-(

If you are not aware Garmin now owns Fusion. My factory installed Fusion unit did not power up last year after spring launch. After some back and forth emails Fusion agreed the unit was still under warranty and I was provided a repair ticket number. Fortunately Garmin/Fusion sent me a new, updated, unit. The Fusion entertainment units are very expensive and if another loss of my Fusion unit I would replace with a auto audio unit. These days one can get a unit that would appear to met all you demands at a much more reasonable cost. Only drawback would be no NEMA connection to control via boat systems.

Agree the hub controller is not very intuitive - we keep the instruction guide handy! But we can also control the sonic hub through the simrad MFDs, one in the cabin and one on the cockpit. I fitted a Bluetooth receiver, connected to the aux input, all works well for us.

I have ordered an Fusion Apollo RA770 now, also two Fusion Speakers as one of the original speakers failed. I plan to mount everything with a friend during our next trip.
I wonder how to get access to the wooden front part where the Remote and the ipod-case of the Fusion Audiohub are mounted. Any hints and tips?

A bit of a different solution would be to buy a 32gb MP3 player with Bluetooth 4.2 for around £60 from Amazon and with an expansion slot to 128gb. Get a Bluetooth enabled speaker. Expensive but nice sound is the B&O Boelit 17 or an Ultimate Ears Blast which is submersible. With the UE system you can add more speakers to operate from the same MP3 player - one in the saloon and another on deck. Sorted. All your Apple Music can be converted to MP3 using the iTunes converter. Then you can carry the whole system with you on all your hols. www.ultimateears.com/en-gb/features/waterproof.htmlIan

Presume they are currently counted under the main cabin switchpanel? In which case, easy enough, you can reach behind from either above (open up the switch panel) or from the back locker below.

I considered that but I don’t liked this solution because especially for my wife the system must be as user friendly as possible. For instance we spend a lot of time in the harbor and whenever I leave the boat... You also have to charge the devices regularly. I intend to plug a big usb stick with my music into the RA770 and can then control this on the unit and through my iphone.

ohanaYes, things are and shall be mounted under the switchboard and I can access the cables etc. from the back. Nevertheless, I assume that I will have to extend the hole in the board .and I am not sure if I can do that without dismounting that board. Therefore I wonder how to dismount the board for the woodworks.

I modified this board extensively for a new vhf, switchboard etc. Did this in situ with a multi tool, so no strain on the board mounting. Key is to have good dust extraction running to pr vent contamination of the electrics with dust

I bought a fiio high res audio player. They start at 69 € and can play all kind of music files. I put a sd card with 500GB in and was able to copy the most important files from my music server at home without transfer it to mp3. It is very simple to us the quality is high above every audio system you could have in a boat and I am completely satisfied. To connect it I use the auxiliary input.

A bit late I want to report how things went.
The replacement of the first speaker went relatively smooth. The other one wanted to stay in place by any means after unscrewing. Only with strong force I could remove it finally. I was happy that nothing was destroyed on the boat side.
The Apollo device was mounted by a friend who has more experience with wood works. It took a while and a lot of sweat ( was done in July in south Italy) but step by step things moved in the right direction. Finally the Apollo was mounted and an external Usb plug was installed. Since then we use the audio system much more than before because the usability is much, much better. Not only music can easily be played from the iphone but also the adjustment of the volume inside and outside can be done from the phone, meaning from everywhere on board. I can recommend such a replacement to anyone who regularly wants to listen to music from an onboard system.
Is anyone interested in the old system? (The remote is not yet deinstalled).
