Evening All
Our MF755 is powered by a Yamaha 150 outboard - 2015 engine with only 50 hours when we purchased the boat in Feb this year. The engine had never been serviced so we had a full service done before the start of this summer season.
On a couple of occasions since the service the engine malfunction light has started blinking - the first time was after we had moored up on a jetty for a couple of hours, then when we pulled away the indicator started flashing. Tried stopping and restarting with no change so as we were only 20 mins from our berth we made our way slowly back. Had to go into reverse to moor up against the pontoon and then I noticed the indicator stopped flashing. Am thinking that the intake valve maybe got some matter into it which was then dislodged when reversing. However we did check the water stream was ok when the indicator 1st started going.
Had some more outings with the boat - including a weekend away onboard - all fine, no issues at all, cruising speed aok and no hiccups. Then on Sunday we went out again, had a bit of a cruise at 20knots for 30mins or so, then came back to 8knots and after a while the engine indicator started blinking. Again nothing obvious - water stream aok, temp ok, no sputtering or anything. Tried stopping, starting, giving it a bot of a blast and also reversing to no avail. Moored up on a jetty, lifted the engine, again nothing obvious but we did give the intake areas a bit of a brush off. Lowered the engine, started her up and all ok again, no indicator light.
So this is pointing towards a hyper sensitive water flow sensor - is this normal to be so sensitive? Also is there any info that I can look at from the engine diagnostics cable that can confirm when this is a blockage problem?
Engine now has 79 hours on it.
If anyone has any helpful insights I would be most grateful for pointers
