Apologies for a repeat from general forum but I am looking for prompt assistance!! My SO 26 lift keel was brought ashore by the marina today How should they support her? At present she has bilge keels on blocks and they dont want to use rudders for support. Surely she is designed to take the ground - using keels and rudders? Boat doesn't look happy Prompt response appreciated!! John

John
Can't advise, but maybe ask a local surveyor and maybe get your insurance company to cover costs. Has the boatyard a good reputation? It is not in their interest to risk damage. Are you ashore just temporarily? Do let the forum know how you get on.

Hi John,
Our 30i lift keel has a different keel arrangement (centre keel and twin rudders), so not directly comparable. However, my yard supports the boat on the the keel on blocks and puts additional props under the transom and under the bow with load spreading pads against the hull. This provides security against tipping end for end. Obviously we also have the side props as well in the normal boatyard way.
This leaves the rudders free to move for checking of bearing wear, and the centreboard clear to be lowered for inspection, antifouling etc.
I am hoping one of our other members with the twin bilge keel arrangement will also come in with a comment on how theirs is normally supported.

When our SO32 is in the yard she sits on her bilge keels on blocks, with 2 x extra supports just in front of the rudders and one centrally placed some way in front of the keels. The extra supports are just for safety. The rudders are way off the ground. But then the rudders are off the ground even if the bilge keels are sat on the ground.

Thank you for the comments so far. The yard have now put so many chocks under the hull I can hardly get any antifouling on! I remain hopeful that a SO 26 owner will spot this thread and provide the benefit of their experience - in the meanwhile I will try not to run aground!
watching this space ......
Thanks John
