The valves can freeze pretty tight. Good luck with the replacement. I am planning to replace my through hulls and ball valves with plastic ones (google TruDesign) to avoid corrosion and dezincification. There have been a few threads here about this topic. By the way, whenever I leave the boat I turn off all sea cocks, a safety measure and also keeps the valves mobile.
Edit: Trudesign have both NPT and BSP threaded fittings.

I had to replace two of my seacocks and valves last month as the valves ware frozen , annoying when hasen’t been planed - one of the truhull’s was good but the other had seriouse dezincification ....
Did not found plastic ones in the local chandlery and went with standard ones...

www.23hq.com/Jeanneau/photo/55015615/originalWith a heat gun and high degree of persuasion, I was able to take out the valve. I left the elbow and thru-hull. Fortunately, my holding tank is completely dry. Pretty sure the thread is BSPP. British Standard Pipe Parallel. I'm not too familiar with BSPP but poking around the web it seems to be all over with regard to how to best seal. I've read about a crush washer, fiber washer, or o-ring on the male flange, a matching angled seal (30deg. I think) at the base of the connection (mine doesn't have this), being sealed with pipe sealant or even with teflon tape like a tapered thread. This valve had pipe sealant, but also looks like remnants of a washer at the base of the connection which I have not read about. I wanted to use the Raritan Trudesign 2" BSPP valve as a replacement but from discussion and email with Raritan, I gave up on this after learning that their 2" hose adapter (straight tail) is special order - 2-3 weeks - really? I get that BSPP is not common in the states but with so many European boats, I would think a 2" BSPP hose adapter would be readily available. I'm going with a 2" BSPP Bronze Groco valve and will reuse the hose adapter that I have. The first bronze valve lasted 15 yrs. - so. I have not settled on a way to seal it, so open to suggestions. Thank you, Frank

How old is the thru hull? I just finished the last of my replacement on my 2002 as Jeanneau uses marine brass which is a potential risk after 5 yrs (high zinc content). I went with flanged bronze.
