We are interested in hearing recommendations about Glomex TV Antennaes for our SO379. She goes in the water in 3 weeks and I need to make a decision soon about the new antennae to mount on the mast before launch. Does anyone have any thoughts, I am considering the GLOMEX 10 TV ANTENNA AUTOMATIC GAIN CONTROLDVB-T2 TV Full HD Marine Omnidirectional Antenna with Automatic Gain Control? I don't want anything larger. We sail on Lake Ontario and are never far from larger cities.

Putting the TV antenna atop the mast runs the risk of disrupting the radiating/receiving characteristics of the VHF transceiver antenna, so if you can locate it elsewhere, do so. Given the height of the CN Tower, you don't need substantial height except at the fringe of reception - when you're likely watching local TV there anyway. An arm on the mast is not as good as for receiving circularity as is a stern pole or mounting atop an arch, though the limited horizontal cross-section of the mast doesn't whack the antenna's reception circularity too badly. (My semi-retirement income is derived from designing/diagnosing/optimising TV broadcast transmission systems.)

Hello, I just finished the refurb on a 54DS so had the same questions. You might find an alternative useful. All the marine TV aerials are from my experience expensive to buy and costly to install, run cables, ensure good connections later on etc. I bought a brand new Toshiba smart TV for £170 with all usual clever features...and installed next to it a digital (interior) tiny aerial for £20. It is brilliant. It receives all digital channels in HD and radio stations, (65 stations in Barcelona, 60 in Gibraltar, 15 stations while 35 miles out to sea), it is the surface area of an iPad and the thickness of about 1cm, is flexible so it sticks on the back of the TV. Also, as it takes its power from the TV, there is no installation or cabling. HD Digital TV Antenna, Indoor TV... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07P68P3YV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_shareFor £20, it’s with trying... Best Alexandria
