Does anybody know who made the original windex indicators? I doubt it's a Jeanneau part? I need to replace it. Ideas please.
Thanks, Graeme

I would assume it is the same manufacturer as your original wind instruments and chart plotter. On my 2007 39i its Raymarine. I have ordered replacement parts through defender.com

I believe the "windex" masthead fly is marketed by Davis Instruments in the USA and comes in a couple of sizes and variations

I have always known them as Windex, though I have also seen Hawke and Davis. I think just an independent brand. Most Chandlers will have one or the other. Definitely not a unique Jeanneau part.
They come in several sizes, small ones for dingys through to the largest so they can be seen at the top of a tall mast. Out in all winds, day and night, buy the top model with good bearings, clear reflector tapes and a solid mounting design.

I had to replace the original because the dealer had not fitted the fins correctly. They didn't lock the rotating part down and it blew off in a very high wind. The new parts just fitted over the bits left on the antenna and were easy to lock in place.

I ended up with 3 trips up the mast to sort the problem. I hoped the new windex would simply plug into the original base and just need the grub screw tightened. It fitted perfectly, but the thread in the glass filled plastic base was mostly stripped. Plan B was to unscrew the base from the masthead and install the entire new unit. That was thwarted by the fact that the original base had its bolt screwed into a tapped hole in the masthead plate. All fine and dandy, but 10 years of galvanic interaction made it impossible to remove. Substantial spanners and mole wrenches did nothing. Plan C...
Drilled a new mounting hole on the opposite side and used a nylock nut and through bolt with anti-sieze compound. Sorted. It would have been easy if the mast had been down, however I like going sailing...

"Windex" is the original trademark of the design by Sven-Olof Ridder in the 1960s. It is now owned by Davis. It is almost a generic word although there are other manufacturers with similar designs now.
