Hello Jeanneau owners with oil stained hands.
I inspected the air intake filter on our 1995 Jeanneau SO 45.1 today and found a fair amount of engine oil inside the filter housing.
A google search led me to begin looking for a PCV valve. I've looked but can't see anything that resembles a valve.
So my question is does the Yanmar 4JH2-TE have a positive crankcase ventilation valve?
Thanks in advance, Baz

Mainly replying to bump this up as no reply to date
Does the 4JH2-TE have a turbo?

Hello,
I don't think diesel engines have PCV valves.
Regards,
Trevor

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but to share knowledge our Yanmar 4JH2-TE does have a turbo and it does have a PCV valve. Next mission is to find where I can buy a replacement in Turkey.
Cheers, Baz.

Our 4JH3-HTE definitely has a PCV and it likely was the cause of some significant oil loss events. The valve is buried behind the oil filter on the side of the block and takes some accessing. After removing the valve and cleaning everything up the engine now runs as designed - never exceeds 4 bar (58 psig) which is the design relief pressure of the PCV.

Are you certain it is a PCV system on your engine rather than CCV? I thought CCV was more usual as diesels aren't weel suited to PCV. My non-turbo 4JH4AE just has a crankcase vent to the intake box. I think the turbo versions are similar but with more complex intake air filtration. I haven't looked at the 4JH3 documentation as I have the 4JH4.
I'm just curious as I thought PCVs were pretty unusual on diesel engines.

Our engine has a relief valve (~12 bar) as part of the oil pump and also a "pressure regulating valve" (=PCV) which dumps from the block head back into the oil pan.
A link to the engine manual is below. The oil system is described around page 3-21.

OK, now I see the problem - we're talking about different things. I read PCV as pressure control valve whereas it also (and usually) means positive crankcase ventilation.
The manual doesn't show any such valve and it says the system is "totally enclosed" so we need an expert.

That’s hilarious! The hazards of assumed acronyms!
