43DS delivered in the US have two black water tanks. One in the aft cabin, where the hanging locker should be in the port side cabinetry, and one up fwd, outboard of the fwd head. They are SS, and some have had leakage problems. Best to use plastic, if you have one made. I think some have already done so. Check the postings for this subject.

Ours came with one between the shower/hull and another between the toilet/hull in the forward heads. I had the please of ripping both out, since we only needed one heads and that is now composting. The installations had custom stainless tanks, one of which was failing and had all waste routed to the tank and from there to outflow aswell as a pump out and a vent. If you add up the water in, you can see that we ended up blanking off quite a few holes in the boat.

Would be really interested in how you are finding the composting head, seems very little info on the web about the pros and cons on a boat

So far so good but it is early days and we are still on the hard so can also use the facilities here for anything heavy! The biggest issue was getting one that would fit and even then we had to adapt it (yes I know another post on my to-do list!). We went with C-Head who have some good info and found Sandy very helpful. I must say that I didn't realise how ignorant i was about urine diverting heads (composting is the common term but a misleading misnomer). As a landlubber in the UK you just flush and forget.

Would be great to get more feedback once you have had it installed for awhile, maybe some photos too Could be an article for Hints and Tips cheers M

We have 2, both port side. One is behind panel (4 screws) in stand-up shower area. The other is next to toilet in forward head accessed by the top hatch. Hopefully (new to this) they don't leak yet

Blackwater tanks were not a standard fit, at least for European bound boats.
Ours had a retrofit in the aft heads. The tank is accessed through the shower stall via where the soap, shampoo, storage would have been.
We had a second tank fitted in the forward heads, going for an off-the-shelf poly tank rather than a custom made job. Alas we were not around when they fitted it because they took out all the teak shelving from the locker (to the left of the sink and threw it away!). It could have been re-instated because the space behind was more than adequate to accommodate both.
The stainless steel custom made tank so far has proved more problematic than the poly tank. It has suffered corrosion and needed re-welding. It also tends to weep corrosions stain down the inside of the hull. When we finally have to replace it I will go for another off-the-shelf plastic tank.

hi there do you have pics or details on the poly tank and installation? to me not to have a holding tank is a drawback.... difficult to tell the kids "dont use the crapper while I am swimming ...." cheers

Sorry these promised pics are not so good. Rather a rush to get them done and get back to the airport. Life would be soooo much simpler if things happened in Greece when they are supposed to. ie people turn up when they say they will. Anyhow.... This is what it looks like in the forwards heads, behind that nice teak storage cupboard next to the loo. The interior was thrown away during the fit by a technician - who will never work on our boat again! Taking it out and re-fitting is quite simple. As you can see there is a big space to work with. Our holding tank is a simple off-the-shelf poly one... The loo outlet pipe would normally go up into an anti-syphon loop in this space and back down to the outlet. We simply cut the pipe and put the loo outlet into the top of the tank and the tank outlet straight down to the seacock. There are so few pump out facilities in Greece that we opted not to have pipe up to the deck. www.23hq.com/Alenka43ds/photo/54996440/originalwww.23hq.com/Alenka43ds/photo/54997327/originalwww.23hq.com/Alenka43ds/photo/54996452/original

On our SO 439 we had a blackwatertank installed in the aft head when we bought it. We then wanted to add another tank in the front. We ordered it from an official Jeanneau dealer/partner. It took months to convince him that we REALLY wanted to add such tank. Finally original parts were correctly installed and the tank aside the front head shower is doing a good job since then.

Thanks both
Our plan is to fit one in the aft head, as this is the one used most often, and maybe in the future in the forward one.
In Hong Kong there are no facilities to pump it out, so no need to do extra holes in the deck. The only question is where to put the vent for the tank

Holding tanks in the aft heads are normally inside the shower cubicle. I believe there is normally a vanity unit here. We have a stainless steel tank aft, but it still handed to be re-welded after a few years. If you have a similar looking panel rather than a vanity unit be careful taking out the screws, not all are good fixings and our as a nasty habit of dropping onto your toes. www.23hq.com/Alenka43ds/photo/55053429/original

Thanks for the advice I have the vanity unit and I'm seriously thinking of fitting the tank there. The only issue is finding the right tank size, as I would prefer to avoid the original SS one for obvious reasons

Sorry, I don't have any pics of tank in this situation. It is much larger than fwd tank and there is still space. I can try and measure gap behind but it twill be a few weeks as we are on a passage with lots going on. You will need to remove vanity fittings to get in there I don't see another way to do it.
See if you can get it out without damage you may be able to refit after the tank is in.
Sorry for any typos - auto correct is doing silly stuff at moment.

I bought a Natures Head composting toilet to be installed in my Class C RV. It has no discernable odor, even when the lid is lifted or the upper portion is lifted partially when removing the liquids bottle to empty it every other day or so. Cleaning is simple if you spray down the inside of the bowl with a water and white vinegar mix after every use and perform a minor wipe up with a paper towel (which you then just drop into the trap door) if you have a particularly egregious contact mark.

Hi there thanks for the feedback, but a composting toilet will not be an option... the Admiral would make me walk the plank if I even mention it... Cheers
