Hello and thank you for having me on your forum. I am searching for any and all information or knowledge on a 1994 Atlantic Magic 44. I understand that it was built in greece under licence from Jeanneau from a Daniel Andrieu design. My partner and I are looking for a live aboard yacht and while we like the look and layout of this boat the lack of information available is a concern for me.
Thanks,
Garth.

Hi Garth With the caveat that I only know about the Atlantic 44 from the research I did when writing the Jeanneau history, www.jeanneau-owners.com/history.html I would say the design is well proven and highly regarded, but you will need to find a reputable surveyor in any case to ensure not only the build was responsible but also the standard long term problems that may develop with all GRP boats. Keel boats, rudder bearings, risks of water ingress etc, rigging and mast condition etc There is a Sun Magic 44 Facebook group - so may well be worth joining that and asking other owners about experiences www.facebook.com/groups/717821301755457/Olympic Marine S.A who build both the Sun Magic and the Sun Legende Greek versions are still in existence but I think may now only do boat repairs, no longer any construction - but you might see if they have any records or manuals etc if you can find a hull HIN number olympicmarine.gr/index_en.htmlAccording to sailboat data they were producing 300 boats per year, so must have been doing things with a lot of knowledge by 1994, perhaps she is even one of the last boats they built sailboatdata.com/builder/olympic-marine-greeceGood luck with the survey and research. Would love to see some photos too if possible Malcolm

Thanks Malcolm, I have read the parts in your history of Jeanneau regarding the Atlantic 44. I think you are right about Olympic Marine, I have emailed both them and Daniel Andrieu designs asking for any info. Will definitely be getting a survey on any boat we move on. I'll check out the Facebook group you mentioned. I'll attach a link to the boat we are considering. Thanks, Garth. www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/sailing-boats/atlantic-magic-44/229426

Surprising there doesn't seem to be any images of the deck and cockpit? Teak decks if she has them tend to be a massive cost trap, esp if screwed as well as bonded need to check if the balsa or core is wet/damp...can be a biggy. Newish engine a plus - many Kubota's are marinised in France as Nanni's. Guess you will need budget for new instrumentation, looks it is pretty limited and dated A70, ST60 etc

Hi Garth
How did it go with the Atlantic?
We're also interested to buy a Sun Magic 44, would be interesting to hear your reflections and thoughts as a new owner...
best regards HÃ¥kan Wergeni
