I've wired up my MPPT directly to my domestic battery bank for the time being but this means that it is bypassing the shunt that my Victron 712 is using to monitor my batteries.
Would I be better to keep the MPPT -ve on the -ve battery terminal and then put the +ve MPPT onto the battery isolator? (the box with all the +ve wires and four terminals).
I'd like the solar to be charging the batteries when all battery switches are turned off but i'd also like the Victron to monitor how much charge is coming in.

Usually the shunts are on the “-“ - GND. The place to connect a solar controller is from the other side of the shunt from the batteries. Also keep in mind that all batery monitirs are generray not trustworthy. And when you measure the input amperage the number that you see can be quite dufferent from the actual value as the MPPT and the battery monitor are electronic devices and work on time-slices and the measurment and power supply point may different...

Hello findhorn, Have a read of this information regarding the installation of the battery monitor. I know you are hooking up the solar regulator but this will provide you with some easy to read guidance on how it should be configured. It also outlines some of the parameters you may consider for your battery monitor to give you confidence it is providing you with a reasonable idea of the state of charge of your batteries. www.fridge-and-solar.net/monitor-tips.htmRegards, Trevor
