Good day All. Please share your experience or ideas, what will be the best place to mount the fire extinguisher?

Hi Gia,
We have two extinguishers, one is in the cockpit locker, accessible from outside the cabin, the other is on the table support inside the cabin, forward of the stove and engine.
The thought is that the stove or engine are the most likely sources of a fire, best to get out of the cabin first if possible then reach for the extinguisher, but if trapped forward of the fire, at least there is an extinguisher at hand which may help you quell enough of a path to get out.
I hope to never have to try out either theory. Will be interested to hear other people’s thoughts. It’s not a specific power boat question.

I have 2 extinguishers on my 895. One is inside the cabinet door under the sink attached to the fwd cabinet wall right behind the door and one is in the closet in the main cabin. This 2nd one is tucked into the corner behind the wall so you don’t even see it unless you look to the right into the corner. I just ordered small “fire extinguisher inside” decals to place on the doors. I figure in an emergency a passenger might want to grab one and this will make it obvious where to find one. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07P2YFSKXCapt’n Lynn

Hi everyone. I really need your advise and help. 2 weeks ago, I delivered my boat from dealer's place to my marina. The last couple of days, I noticed that the bow thrusters started to malfunction. When I push the joystick to the right, you can hear the motor but the boat doesn't move. When I push it to the left, the same thing happens but the boat moves slightly. It almost feels like there's not enough battery power. I already brought this problem to my dealer's attention an he'll come to my marina on Thursday to check on it, but your feedback is greatly appreciated. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Every night, I leave the power cord plugged in to the marina, so I don't think it's an issue with the battery not being charged. I know that the bow thruster is supported with its own batter by DC supply, but I can not find a specific battery charge level on my display for it.

Hard to know what’s up with your thruster without being there. But sounds like it could be a low battery problem. I had a problem with the battery not fully charging. Apparently it was only charging when the engine was running and the thruster was activated (turned on). Turns out it was not properly wired at the factory. My dealer added a wire from the AC/DC charger to the battery. I’m not sure if they did anything else. But they were already aware of the problem as they had fixed a couple of other boats. They tell me the battery is now being charged all the time when the engine is running and when shore power is on. I haven’t put my voltmeter on it to check but so far so good.

Thank you Capt'n Lynn. I appreciate your quick reply. I have already forwarded your comment to my dealer and let's see, how he will act on it. Honestly, I am very upset that Brand new boat( and expensive enough...) has this kind of problem. Thruster down creates the serious problems in process of my training....

I understand your upset. I learned years ago that this sort of thing (problems with new boats) is common in the industry. We as consumers would like to see a low level of errors and escapes from the factory. Boat manufacturers have low quantities of any particular model compared to something like automobiles which I think is one of the issues. Of course there are other factors too. But the bottom line is this sort of thing can be expected. Fortunately In the case of jeanneau and Sundance they stand behind the warranty and have for me provided excellent support in getting things fixed as needed. Not that anyone wants problems with their new boat. But I would suggest getting the bugs out as a part of the process. Look at all you are learning. And it’s good to know how to handle her without the thruster. You never know when you might need to do this. One time pulled in near a dock in a bunch of seaweed. I’ ended up without a thruster as it was tangled up with gunk. :,)

You are absolutely right Captain Lynn, When weather is calm, I do cast on cast off from my slip with no thruster and it looks like, I am already Ok with it, but my Marina is right across the ocean bay and wind comes and goes unexpectedly all the time, besides, the distance between of 2 lines in our marina is short and especially, when it is windy, I definitely need thruster to help me to manage my boat properly to avoid any possible collision... I am trying to be accurate and my trainer stays next to me,( he is very proud of me..- but still not fully comfortable. It looks like, it will take some time, but hope, in couple of weeks, I will be fine.

Good day all and especially Captain Lynn Dealer came today , to check the bow thruster. They found that defected relay was installed in factory….. Now they have to order a new part, come and install a new one. The mean time, he recommended to charge thruster battery with the car battery charger...

Good day NC 895 owners. Please share with me, your experience with the sliding back bench.
When it's pulled out all the way, there's three locks. two on the starboard side which go down into the floor perpendicularly and one on the port side that lock horizontally into the side of the boat. However, when the bench is pulled in all the way (so engines can be tilted up), there's nowhere to lock on the port side. Do you all have the same situation? On just two locks, the bench does not seem too stable, so when the boat is moving, the port side easily moves back and forth. What concerns me is that with several passengers sitting down when the boat is underway, the only two locks on the starboard side may break from the force of movement on the port side and unlock.
How do you handle this issue?

i believe they want the seat in the "three lock position" for traveling since the motors are down. The stern gate will also not close correctly in the forward position.
i do like the seat to be in the three lock position since it also would keep water away from the access panel to the hull on the port side in case of a large wake or following sea.

How do you handle this issue? Hello gia2019. The sliding stern bench seat is not the best design. Do not raise the outboards with the bench in the back position. If you do, the cowling will meet the bench seat and one or the other has to give. Likewise, do not use the bench seat when in the forward position. There is no lock/support for the bench on the port side in the forward position. Using the bench in the forward position will put strain on the two floor locks, which both are on the starboard. I also note that the mounting for the locks for the bench on the starboard side are not ideal and consists of short screws. I have replaced these screws with bolts, which help, but still does not allow use in the forward position. Dogbreath

Hello Again, and I appreciate your comments. However, I would love to securely use bench seat when in the forward position. Especially when we are underway with my family of four, for a short voyage...may be to add an extra lock on port side to secure stern bench in forward position and all possible ideas will be greatly appreciated. I also plan to discuss it with my dealer as well.

Good day Everybody I need your quick advise please. I was using the trim tabs yesterday and all of a sudden the little red vertical LED lights that indicate the level of the trim tabs, stopped working. I checked and the trim tabs themselves are operating when I press the buttons, but the lights no longer appear, so I don’t know what level each trim tab is at. Would you have any idea why this would occur and how to fix it? The overall electronic panel is on, so I know for sure that power is working ok. As far as I know, there's no particular fuse control that I can check. Your prompt reply is greatly appreciated. Plan to go far away tomorrow with my family....

Gia,
We had the same behavior with our tab indicators. We used step two from the international boat electronics trouble shooting guide, and so far it's worked. Step one of course is to turn it off wait, one potato, two potato, and turn it back on, but step two is the cheapest option, do nothing and hope it goes away (works well on many aches and pains I find too). All joking aside, we had this on two day trips, no in succession (i.e. it didn't work and then it did). We addressed it with Sun dance (great service experience so far) and they couldn't duplicate it and it's never happened again. chalk one up to procrastination. On a side note, I don't use them because I can see the tab performance more clearly by comparing the bow rail to the horizon/shoreline.
Good luck

Hi Everyone, Tomorrow I plan to make a voyage quite a bit longer into the ocean that what I have ever done before. I was wondering, can you recommend me any good apps to track in real time - weather conditions, swells, and wind on the ocean? I've tried some, but nothing that easily gives me this info. Thank you in advance for your replies.
