Practical Sailor has had a number of articles on this subject over the years. Just google for "Practical Sailor wifi booster" and you will get lots of hits.

I installed a Bitstorm Bad Boy XTREME MJ (Metal Jacket) - Complete Systems www.bitstorm.com/bad-boy-xtreme-mj-kits/ in 2017. How useful do you find yours? Mine works well on my home marina's member wifi. However, all other nearby networks it picks up are locked and very weak signals. Having the antenna on the top of my mast helped. Before I installed it, other boats were blocking the signal to my laptop. Caxton

The system works well. We pickup between 10-25 sites along the coast. While the majority are locked (as is mine), some open sites are available with full signals. If we pickup hotels or restaurants, I cave called them and they have mostly offered their signing passwords. Our booster/antenna is mounted on the port side of the arch. Very pleased with the results!

I used to use a Ubiquiti Wi-Fi but two season changed to the "Bad Boy" and have been quite happy with it in the Caribbean.
