Hi - can anyone comment on their experience of putting carpet in the aft cabins of their 43 ds? We’re just getting a quote and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this before. Thanks Mike

Hi - can anyone comment on their experience of putting carpet in the aft cabins of their 43 ds? We’re just getting a quote and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this before. Thanks Mike As we were living on board all year, we had fitted carpets made up for the whole boat. What a difference it makes in the winter (and Scottish summer!!!). They have been down for about five years now and still look good. Never had a problem with moisture or damp. This year we moved to warmer climes. The carpets were still good and are still down but we are now seriously considering taking them up in the warmer weather but not a massive problem. As an aside, we got the carpet devided up so that there were whipped 'joins' over various sole joints to assist access to the bilges - a great thing to save lifting the whole carpet every time you want to get anything out of the bilges. All in all, thoroughly recommended for comfort on board. Oh and DO NOT waste money on 'marine carpets/fitters' we just went tomalocal carpet shop, chose a good quality off cut and asked them to fit it. After a bit of a think, they were very happy to do so at their 'normal' fitting price.

When we bought our 43DS the previous owner had already fitted carpet through the boat. It was very nice underfoot in the cooler UK climates but the minute we got to the med it didn't feel right. Plus there seems to be a lot of dust in the atmosphere down here and although the carpets disguised the fact that dust was settling I for one would much rather see where it is and get rid with a vacuum. Vacuuming the carpet was far less effective.
We now only have carpet on the raised sections around the table and nav table which we find adds a homely feel.

Thanks for all the feedback, it’s been really helpful. We’ve got carpet going in next week so I’ll post some photos once it’s done.
