Hi all
I have a sun odyssey 43DS from 2002
I'm getting a flexofold prop and I have been asked whether the shaft is ISO /SAE 30
Any idea where to get this information from?
Cheers

Hi Ales
I haven't yet, as I am still not clear on the information I have to give... And a few other things broke that change the priority list...like the muffler 😓
Cheers

Hi, I also ordered a flexofold for my SO 43 DS. The size is 20“x14“ 3R with a 75HP motor. (I dont like very high revs and I think the motoe is strong enough for this size.) I am pretty sure that the shaft is 35 ISO and I got it with this Diameter. I will mount the propeller in the beginning of May then I can confirm it.

Hi Reiner
Looking forward to your feedback
My PSS has a 30 M DF written on it, is this the same on yours? I thought that this was the diameter of the shaft

Hi, do you mean the propeller shaft sealing? I would also assume that 30 indicates the shaft diameter. My boat is in Greece and I am in Germany so I cannot check it. Last year my cutlass bearing was changed and if I remember rightly I measured 35mm. So I hope I ordered the correct size for the prop.

Hi there
When will you fit it? I would like to know all the details as I am planning on fitting one also before the summer
Do you know the diameter of the stern tube? I'm trying to get the PSS maintenance kit and asks for the shaft and also stern tube diameter
Cheers

Maybe you hv decided already but if you want to see a complete survey there was an excellent one done by Yachting Monthly (March 24 2015) of 10-15 folding/feathering props. I can send you a copy if you like. I ended up getting a 20" Featherstream from Darglow Engineering UK. V similar in design and performance to the Maxprop but about 30% cheaper. It is not just the diam of the shaft but there is a specific taper profile where the prop fits. The details on my purchase from Darglow said
20x15,3b, RH FeatherStream 1,382.77 1,382.77 276.55 Bored 33,1:10,70,10,M24x2
Whatever all that means but i am sure it says everything that a prop supplier would need to know. If you change yr mind after reading the Yachting Monthly article then it is Nick at Darglow to whom you need to speak (mail@darglow.co.uk ). He has successfully supplied many props to owners of the 43ds so knows all the details already.
Mine has now been going for 3 years w no prblms. Like any other feathering prop just make sure you re-fill it w grease at least 1x per yr or you may get excessive wear of the joints. If nec you can re-fill w grease under water if you have the breathing equipment (or the lung capacity) to stay down that long.
Best of luck Andrew

Hi there Yes, ultimately I used the Yachting monthly review in order to make the final decision, and I gathered that the Flexofold was the most complete for my needs. In addition their customer support was excellent, thus, I went for it. So far it has been on for 2 years and I am loving it, great investment I am now in the process of getting a "Gator rope cutter" (www.propprotect.com), as last weekend while anchoring at night I got entangled on a crab trap with a black floatie... and wasn't a pleasant experience being next to a cliff... I think that YM review goes down as one of the most widely referenced in modern boating history - I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen it used as the basis for a buying decision (not all the same, interestingly).
When I saw it my key takeaway was to upgrade to Flexofold or Maxprop - as it happened I sold my boat before getting around to it and my new boat came with 3B Maxprop - which I love - the stopping power is unbelievable and the propwalk is so negligible that I genuinely cannot remember which way it is!

HI,
does anybody know the outside diameter of a cutless bearing. I know that the shaft is 35 in diameter, the cutless bearing is 14cm long, but the outer diameter is 4,5cm or?
THANK YOU
