I have a 43DS that I raced in the Port Huron to Mackinac Race on Lake Huron this last year. If anyone is familiar with the newer performance handicapping rules, ORR or Offshore Racing Rules has replaced PHRF as the standard in the Great Lakes for long distance racing. Because I was in the Cruising Class this year, I did not want to go through the process of a full ORR measurement because that process costs $2000 to $3000 per vessel. Instead I chose the ORR-EZ which uses boats of the same design and adjusts the data based on sails and other minor configuration changes. My problem this year was there were no Jeanneau 43DS vessels in the ORR database so they just made up a number. My ORR-EZ GPH with an aym spinnaker was 0.799 and for the Mackinac race they rated me 0.786. I don't know if that's fair or not.
The question I have is are there any other Jeanneau 43DS owners who have had their boat measured to this ORR rule or have used the ORR-EZ to handicap their boats. If so what is their ratings?
