My SO37.1 has 2 heads. The aft head has a purpose built holding tank (gravity emptying) fitted but the forward head doesn't have a holding tank.
Has anyone fitted a tank to the forward head and was it specially made or purchased "off the shelf"?
Greatful for any suggestions

Richard Regret I am not familiar with the forward layout of the SO37.1, but I did fit a gravity discharge holding tank last winter to our SO34.1 I ended up using a bulkhead mounted Vetus tank Info at : www.vetus.nl/indexns.asp?lang=2&productid=77They are really well made and much easier to fix on a bulkhead (and cheaper) than those supplied by Lee sanitation - (guess might fit in your hanging locker?) I changed the vent system for full bore 2" pipe as I have read that getting air in the best way to avoid bad smells , I did fit the in-line no smell filter, but actually feel that I would not have had problems without this. I am thinking of upgrading the standard head with an electric conversion, which without getting into too much detail should have some added benefits, the only negative I have heard on this jabsco units is the price (circa £300) and they are quite noisy Fair and pleasant smelling winds Malcolm

Many thanks for the info. I'll look up Vetus. Not sure yet where the best position for fitting will be. The hanging locker is opposite the heads so would not be easy. It might be possible to fit a slim tank behind the lockers in the head. I've yet to investigate.

I recently bought a 1997 37.2 (3 berth layout) on a fresh water lake where holding tanks are mandatory. The P.O. had installed an 18 gal plastic tank in the port aft cockpit locker (definitely not gravity drain) and a 10 gal (too small) in the v berth space forward of the forward water tank. Neither installation is particularly satisfactory. I would like to change these this coming year. BTW Where did you put the aft tank? I would sure like to free up that locker....is there space under the port berth where on my bost there is a water tank.

The holding tank for the aft head is directly behind the loo at about 3 to 4 feet above the shower tray. Hence the gravity drain. I think I have enough room in the forward head in a similar position. However the existing tank seems to have been taylor-made in GRP. It is also quite small; not sure of the capacity but probably no more than 20galls.
I've heard also that GRP tanks are prone to splitting - not nice!!
