I’ve developed a fuel supply problem from the external outboard tank to the outboard. I don’t understand why there are two prongs at the tank attachment point (suction assembly). One prong obviously picks up and supplies the fuel. What does the other prong do? Is this the same at the outboard side? Can I do away with the second prong?
I read an article that suggests the primer valve needs to be in the vertical position with arrow point ‘up’ the get the best prime. Any comments?
We have a 6hp Tohatsu with a 12 litre fuel tank.
Thanks Ian

Ian,
The second prong is a mechanical linkage to strengthen the connection. You could in theory get rid of it but I can't imagine why you'd want to, it's not the source of your leak. If you're in a place where you have access to parts you should be able to replace the connector fairly inexpensively.

David,
I think I’m down to changing the tank suction assembly and connector. Just need to do a little internet search. The primer bulb certainly works more effectively in the vertical position n.
Thanks for the advice, Ian
