I am having a little difficulty manoevering my twin engined Merry Fisher 855, 150 hp Yamahas, into tight mooring situations in adverse tide and wind conditions. Using the wheel and the bow thruster I find the fact that it takes 7.5 turns of the wheel to get from lock to lock to be a major factor. Even using a speed knob it takes far to long to get to a position to slowly control and direct the boat.
I would be grateful if owners of MF 855 and other similar boats could tell me how many turns are required to move their engine(s) single or twin, from lock to lock.
Whilst practising using just the engines, straight ahead, and the bow thruster to move the boat I find that it needs more throttle than I am confident to apply in close quarters.
Please help to expand my knowledge of hydraulic steering.
