As soon as you boil the kettle you must see why this boat does not find favour with the ladies. Where the hell do you put the cups? No problem the table is behind you so swing round with the boiling kettle and get the crew at the table to make room. I don't think so. Someone wants a sandwich, so all the makings have to be on the table. Yes it can be done, but things can be so much better.

Set the helm seat up so that it can be tilted forward, it is done on the smaller boat. While you are at it move the seat 2 to 3 inches to starboard, free up the passage to the steps, lines the helmsman up better with the throttles, so he is offset to the wheel but that is no hardship is it. Cover the top surface of the fridge cabinet with a nice formica and you have a huge space on which to slice bread and assemble your bits to make a meal. OK the surface is lower than the top of the galley cabinet but is at a good working level.

So back to filling the coffee mugs. Make a metal surface to fit into the top lip of the sink, a flat bit of alley or stainless cut accurately will be quite secure. Fit a couple of small brackets underneath if your worried. Believe me, when in position the metal surface does not get hot, it is well below the flames from the burners. What a convenient place to set out the mugs, and the makings.

This simple metal plate mod gets better and better. Gas off, kettle outside on a trivet to cool off, need to wash up, move the metal plate to the right and place over the burners, on the kettle support wires. If you put the brackets in the right place it will sit there very happily. Dirty mugs in the sink, nice hot water, clean mugs onto the metal surface, better to cover it with a tea towel, first mate drys the mugs and stores them away.

Which reveals a problem I have not been able to solve. The drawer in the galley cabinet is to shallow. WHY? It is a convenient place to store the mugs but they have to be very small. G & T glasses fit well but French coffee bowls just slop their contents.
