Have any of you rewired the factory speakers on your boat?
I have 2 speakers in the cockpit and the original 2 in the cabin. I noticed that the cockpit speakers were just "jumped" one to the other and not separately wired to the radio, thus, I was not able to balance from side to side, just from inside to the cockpit.
Well, I ran a new wire to the cockpit speaker ( a real PINA) and reconnected the wires to the wiring harness on the radio. Even when only the rear speakers were wired the front ones came on!
As you´re aware the cabin speakers are mounted in the bulkhead and I haven´t pulled the out to see where the wires run to the radio. Anyone´s done that?
Also, I´m replacing the teak transom steps with a product I saw recently made by "Plas Teak" it looks just like real tek and is made from recycled plastic. No maintenance needed ever. I´ll send some photos when I´m done.
The company actually makes the pieces for you if you send them the templates so all you have to do is take off the old one, clean the area glue them in place and caulk around them. The price was reasonable (less than $200.00 for both including the glue) but it would be half that much if you just bought the materials and cut them yourselves (with a knive!) So if it comoes out good I´ll probably repalce all the cockpit teak eventually.
Check them out at plas teak.com

I don´t think so. This company is in Akron, Ohio and although I haven´t heard the one you mention, Plas Teak actually looks very much like the real thing. I´ve seen imitation "teak" decks on the Amels and they look plstic. From what I can tell the Plas Teak looks a lot better, but I´ll be able to verify this very shortly as I´m supposed to receive my order within a couple of days. I´ll let you all know and take some photos also.

notorious,
I have found both cables that run to the two internal speakers in the bundle of wires running deep inside the locker behind the chart table, the one with the very slim vertical door
maybe they are not the original ones though, newish one is red+black, the other looks definitely older and is white+black..
hope this helps
I have brought one of the wires feeding one external speaker to the vhf, and added a switch: this allows to listen to the vhf from the cockpit when needed.

Thanks, Rob, I´ll look into it this weekend. The VHF idea is a good one, I´ll definitely do that also. Fair Winds!
