Hi All, I forever have trouble on my 42.2 with my chain not flaking and having to heave it forward before I can bring in more. I sure many have had the same problem and I am sure some of you have solved it! Please help

I have heard that using stainless steel chain can help as it tends to self stow better than galvanised, but I have no direct experience and it is of course a very expensive option.
My solution on my SO34.2 is to winch the chain in very slowly and push the chain pile forward into the locker as it is retrieved. Not elegant, but it works!

Thanks for that, I believe that SS would slide better but would still need some manual intervention as you describe.
The problem is if you are short handed or need to get the anchor up quickly.
I am thinking of a SS pipe to diect the chain fwd.

grasuk,
it depends on the shape of your anchor locker, however a solution that sometimes works is using a plastic cone like those used to signal "men at work" on the side of the road: just cut it to fit the inside of the locker, and with the apex just below the chain gipsy; when the chain falls it will distribute itself all around the locker without heaping

Many thanks for that it sounds a great solution and I sure my crew will greatly appreciate it.
I will let you know in the spring!
Thanks again.
