I wonder if anyone can help. But just recently I have noticed the steering on my 42DS (July 2006 model) is what I could describe as a little vague. There is about two inches of movement on the wheel before the other wheel or rudder responds. I am not sure but I don't think it was like this when new but if it has happened over a period of time it is possible I wouldn't notice until now that is. Can anyone else who has twin wheels on any model compare their installation and tell me what sort of movement of one wheel is required before the other one "catches up". thanks Grant

Hi there, We own a 42DS in New Zealand. Launched March 2006. You should have had a recall from your dealer. The bearings in both wheels need to be replaced as the ones supplied can fail locking the steering. This is not a Jeanneau build problem but a problem with the supplier of the wheels.
We were advised not to use our boat until they had replaced the bearings.
This was late last year so you should have had it done by now as ours was fixed within a week of the recall.
We are assuming this is your problem otherwise if the bearings have been replaced it's another issue that we are not experiencing.

Hi Castor The bearings were replaced last year under the recall. I have checked the cables and they are indeed very loose. It would appear that they need at least an inch on each cable to be adjusted. My concern now is why should they have stretched so much in 12 months? Anyway will adjust them and keep an eye on the cables - don't want to lose steering when out at sea!
