Guys,
Thanks to Malcolm for his help with this. Emma from Grassi Bateaux of La Rochelle found the parts and will get them to me early next week.
For anyone with a similar problem the large nipple (pt. no. 990515) on the end of muffler is a separate part.
This muffler is used on the 75 & 55 hp engines but sure which model boats.
I'll write a longer report next week on the job. Can't believe how much disassembly is required.

Vasko,
When we went back in to the water and started the engine we didn't have any exhaust water from engine stern exhaust; then noticed water coming in to the bilges from the engine compartment.
On expection found the exhaust muffler had holes in it.

We had the same condition with a wet muffler hole (thin wall rototmolded area), but some of the leak was coming from the large threaded hose adaptor with the "O" ring seal. The original wet muffler had a molded in thread. The new one had a brass threaded insert. We replaced the entire wet muffler, large threaded fitting & the "O" ring. No leaks & all is well. The mechanic of removing the wet muffler is not complicated, but it does require removing the companionway stairs and frame work. I think the job took about 2-3 hours total to remove and reinstall.

Vasko,
One thing I forgot to mention is that there were a lot of exhaust fumes from the leak. If this happens to you get the hatches opened and vent the saloon.
All, has anyone fitted a flow sensor to the exhaust system? If so how did you do it and which type did you buy? My mechanic is suggesting this might be a good modification to make.
Thanks Ian

The replacement exhaust muffler arrived from Jeanneau via Grassi Bateaux, La Rochelle. As you can see the new muffler has a brass insert and we found it was about 15mm longer. Note that the inlet nipple does not come as part of the kit so must be ordered separately. On our 45DS we we had to remove the companion way all the way back to the sole plate support beam in front of the engine. Finding the retaining screws behind the annenuation material was not that easy. Thanks to Rum Johnson of tecno-nautica.com/en/home/ for help with the engine service, finding the problem and installing the muffler.

The same thing happened to me, my exhaust muffler went. The mechanic just took it out and it was no end of trouble to do so, as its under the engine mount.
What the hell was Jeanneau thinking to install it under there??
Mine was the stainless steel one and it just rotted.
Your new one seems to be plastic. Is that right? Any idea how much it costs
Thanks Mario

Hi Mario,
The muffler plus the nipple was €227.88 plus €75.70 for shipping La Rochelle to Portimao, Portugal. I was very impressed by the quality of service we received from Emma at Grassi Bateaux - emma@grassibateaux.com. Would definitely use them again.
Our muffler was plastic so I can't say if it's a direct replacement for your stainless steel model. I suggest you contact Emma with the dimensions of the s/s version and see how it matches with the plastic one.
I did have to re-drill the forward holding bolt hole. All is good now though.
Is you 45DS 2008?

On my 2011 42DS is plastic too. Unfortunately is in the same horrible place of yours, practically under the engine.....

Here's Emma's number: T. +33 (0)5.46.45.40.06. She speaks good English.
The plastic muffler is a Jeanneau part which I got through Emma direct from the factory at La Rochelle.

Mario,
Take them from the photos at the top of this thread.
Don't forget the nipple is a separate part and check they include the 'o' ring.

andreshs1,
I would love to know the answer to that question too ! With all these boats having issues with the Stainless Steel mufflers from that era you would think Jeanneau or someone would come up with a better alternative like these plastic/fiberglass ones .

I was told by Jeanneau that the plastic mufflers won’t fit, and can’t be used as a replacement for the stainless steel muffler.

Hi all, Why won't we all ask mother Jeanneau clear and sound : Why do we have to replace 2008 made mufflers so soon !!!! To my humble opinion it is a real shame no matter what was the reason for that.
