Can anyone advise me on fitting midship cleats to this model. Someone has suggested ones that fit to the toe rail but I have failed to source these but will be looking at the Excel show. Also have we any suggestions to remedy the acute shortage of winches on this vessel? Many thanks

One option is something we did with a Feeling 306 we used to have.
We actually got hit amidships whilst racing but the only damage was to the toe rail. So the yard just cut out the damaged section (and an identical piece on the port side) and replaced with a fairlead. Can then of course fit cleats just inside or lead to a coach roof winch.
I don't know about the winch set-up for a 34.2. Our SO32 had only one coachroof winch which was frankly ridiculous. Would have fitted another on the other side had we not sold the boat. The SF35 has 4 and we could do with a couple more on the top, mainly just to keep halyards on. At least they are well specced, the 32 (and SO35 for that matter) seem pretty underpowered with winches.

We fitted the midship cleats that were developed for Moody toerails. It does requires slightly enlarging the existing holes on the 34.2 toerail, but this cannot be seen once fitted. They could be bigger but overall have proved to be excellent. When fitting I also replaced a couple of the toe rail fixing screws each side of the cleat with through bolts just to be on the safe side. They are not cheap at £95 per pair , but well made www.yachtstyle.co.uk/productfull.php?pid=2Malcolm

With regards to the shortage of Winches we have led the mainsheet to both winches and adde one extra block. Advantages are: you can use either winch to pull the mainsheet and most of the time you can do without the winch.

Many thanks to all, i will certainly invest in the MOODY cleats. The main sheet idea sounds good but being thick can you explain how you lead it to both winches?

Hi Martyn. I don't know if you are UK based but the mailspeed marine catalogue Tel: 0870 118 2628 & on the internet has an aluminium toe rail cleat Part No. 5326 "Ideal cleat for springs etc Fixes to Toe rail by two fixing points offering versatility to your spring/mooring position" Cleat length 200mm Cost £51.99. It looks as though you drill the Toe rail and just bolt it on! From Tomina on Julia Too Two would cost over £100!! sounds pricey but they look as though they would do the job

Sorry its not a Jeanneau , but this new Harmony 42 has the same system, An SO34.2 will need an extra block or 2 to make it similarly double ended. The yellow mainsheet is reasonably self-explanatory Malcolm
