Im in the process of looking for a Sun Odessey 45, Ive just seen one that was built in 2007, she's a lovely well equipped example but the Teak Deck looks quite worn.
My question is, will a boat off this age have had its deck glued or screwed down, and is it possible to contact Jeanneau with the boats details to confirm this either way.
There are no plugs visible on the decking, my concern is that the screws, if used, may be under the layer of black sealant between the planks
Thanks.

If you can get the HIN number off the dealer or owner (or it should be on the starboard side aft right towards the stern maybe 6" below the cavetta line) you can send Jeanneau an email at service.client@jeanneau.fr they tend to reply quite fast and will communicate in English - but will need that HIN number.
personally I think the teak will be glued with Sikaflex - I went round the factory in early 2008 and they were doing glue then, but you should try to get a confirmation from Jeanneau

Many thanks for the information, I'll email the seller for the HIN number.

Even if the teak is glued down, they still use screws, between the slats, to hold the boards down, while the adhesive sets. Reportedly, they are supposed to remove these screws, after drying, and fill those holes. I find those screws under every single piece of failed black caulking, as the caulk above the screw head is very thin. They have also been the source of a couple of leaks.

We took on a 2007 SO45 and have ended up re caulking the teak deck. Now it looks pretty good, but at some point the deck will need replacing, which is not going to be cheap. Thousands of screws under the caulking. Hoping we get to Thailand to do this as friends have had decks replaced at very reasonable prices.
We are very pleased with our 45.
All the best.
Steve

Steve Steve My brother had new teak deck's put onto his Oyster a few years ago in Phuket Phuket Inter Wood Work - Nai & Toe. did a fantastic job which still looks perfect. There may be a few cheaper options in Thailand, but Nai & Toe are the best and have a great reputation - they will do all types of boats jobs and can design things rally well too eg new teak lockers/storage etc. I will PM you with their email Malcolm
