Hello Ron, Gentlemen,
I just purchased and took possession of a '17 MF795. While I am very pleased with our decision to purchase this boat, I'm planning on adding many of the additions to our boat that you've added to yours. I'm a married man with a wife and 14 year old daughter that want to stay warm, and a 16 your old son that like me is interested in trying his hand at fishing in the great Pacific Northwest.
As you can appreciate there is not a lot of information on these boats available for reference. This being the case, I am writing to ask if you could lend a hand to a fellow MF795 owner. Specifically, I'd like to ask if you could answer a few questions and perhaps, if it's not too much trouble, send me a few photographs of the modifications/ additions you made to your boat.
My questions:
Where did you install the Radio and antenna? I'm thinking about installing ours in the port side of the cabin on the black blank panel under the hand rail. Could you send a picture of your install?
Where did your dealer install your Hot Water Heater? Did you change the faucets in the galley and head? Pictures?
My MF795 did not arrive with shore power but it did arrive with heat/AC. I'll be installing shore power and an inverter and an automatic transfer switch. Where's your inverter and on/off switch installed and how did the manufacturer wire the DC in and AC out on the inverter -- do you know? (Again, a picture's worth a thousand words.)
I'd be grateful if you would send a few pictures of your downriggers and plugs for same, kicker, rocket launchers, radar dome install and of course, those cup holders! Great idea, btw!
I'm thinking about adding an auto pilot to our HDS 7 Gen3, along with radar. Any thoughts on this?
(I had a bow thruster installed as well -- glad i did too!)
If you have any other advice or experiences to share, please do so. We're really looking forward to spending time on the boat - we're on Bainbridge Island - perhaps I could buy you a cup of coffee in you find yourself in the neighborhood?
Thanks for your help.
Best,
Brokaw

Hi Brokaw, first off congratulations on your MF795 purchase. It's a great boat!
I take it you purchased it from Sundance Yachts? I hope your experience has been better than mine and other MF owners in the Northwest. Dealing with them has been a nightmare from the day we placed our order to now where it has been at the dealer at their Blaine facility for over a month for warranty work. To be fair, most of the issues we have had came out of their Portland facility sales and technical staff, which is where they had been staging all of the MF boats, but is now moved to Blaine. All of the options I listed were added down in Portland where very little was done correctly and the Blaine facility has put in over 80 hours cleaning up the mess and fixing things including electrical safety issues. I can't imagine a Jeanneau having a more incompetent dealer selling their boats, although I heard the were named best dealer in the US. They have made some changes in personnel and technical staff, and from what I've seen it is promising so far, but from a customer satisfaction standpoint they have much more to learn. The owner Rick has never once contacted us or followed up on our poor experience. Ok, now that I got that out of the way (sorry for digressing).
I'm surprised you don't have shore power given the heater/AC. I don't have those but thought those would only run on shore power. I do have the water heater, but it only works on shore power and is installed below the sink, also taking up valuable storage space. I wasn't told that when the sales person said it was a must have. I probably wouldn't do that again. We did have to swap out the faucet for hot and cold water. I did have an inverter added, but when it was installed Sundance didn't add more batteries to support the load so it kept shutting down. To fix it they went to the far extreme and added three more batteries, so I have a total of six batteries onboard now, although this is where they didn't install the correct size cables and connectors, chargers, or main shut off. The Blaine folks fix those issues, but I still have 6 batteries which is taking up valuable storage space.
Down Rigger. I went with Scotty and installed the side mount plates myself just below the grab bars on each side of the boat. A bit tricky to install but it works great. I also have a Scotty pot puller I use the mounts for as well.
Radio, I got a Lowrance radio and its installed just below and forward of the throttle/gear handle and the antenna is on the starboard side top near he back. This setup works very nice.
Radar - I went with the Lowrance 3G. My Chart plotter is the HDS 9, but if you want to overlay the radar on the charts you will need to add a rate compass. I'm installing the RC42N.
Kicker - this one I'm mixed on. Again I was told as must have for fishing, but to be honest, the Yamaha 200 has a built in trolling function which I find myself using more than the kicker. Part of the reason is I've been fishing pretty rough water and the kicker doesn't give me the control or speed needed for those conditions. If you do decide to get a kicker just be aware it would be installed on the port side swim platform which is high out of the water a pretty far back. I had the extra long shaft Yamaha 9.9, and still had to add a 5" extention kit to get the propeller far enough in the water. I also have the Garmin TR1 Gold autopilot for my kicker (another Sundance thing that has never worked yet) but I'm still thinkin about adding the autopilot for the main.
I would include pictures, but I don't have the boat back yet. My email is below so we can connect and plan a meet up and I can introduce you to another MF owner I know on Vashion Island.
Cheers, Ron ragilpin@comcast.net

Hi Silverlining,
I also purchased a MF795 from Sundance this fall and have had a very difficult experience from the beginning. From getting option pricing to clarity on when, how and what options really was all my own legwork.
I installed a Fusion 650 radio in my MF and I had it mounted underneath the passenger seat facing the pilot's chair. I did this as the Fusion 650 was too deep to be mounted in the console plus there was some interference with the phone tray pull out with the steering wheel. I actually really like it mounted there.
My FM radio antenna is mounted inside that hatch underneath the table. If you stick your head in there you'll see that below the seat there is some room to mount and antenna upright. I have no problem picking up radio despite it being inside.
In terms of chartplotter I had a Simrad Evo installed and I also am going to do radar this spring.
Ragilpin, did you have the radar installed for you or did you install? I am consider doing it myself including the heading sensor as I hear it's not bad, just drilling the roof and running the cable, probably using the overhead light hole as access to the space.
One thing I've found that you all might be interested in: in the hatch just aft of the batteries I am able to fit a Yamaha 2.5HP engine that I plan on using with my tender. I measured several times and knew it was going to be tight but it turns out you can just squeeze it in.

Thedcp, I had the radar installed when I got it. They did move the all around white light a bit to the side so the Radar would be centered. Where are you located in the sound area?
Looks like I should get my boat back next week after being at Sundance for over two months fixing things. The window leak I was told they tightened up each window, although I don't know what that means given there are no adjustments on the frame. I had mentioned another dealer for a forum member had worked with Jeanneau and determined the Frame needed to be torn down and replaced, but no response from Sundance on that. I'll see how that goes.
I got my trim tabs on order and looking to install them in the coming weeks, or when it gets a bit warmer. Went with the Bennett Bolt 12x12 and the new Bennett Autotrim Pro controller.

Port Side Window Leak: I had exactly the same leak on the port side window. The origin was localised to the front mullion (join between side and front screens) but the water would track down to the rear sharp angle and then onto the cushion above the fridge. It was a bad leak, the cushion would be soaked. Jeanneau covered the repairs under warranty. The repair involved removing all the sealant from the mullion and re-doing it from scratch. The shipwrights said there were bubbles in the original sealant. Interesting that others have had same trouble on the same side. I suspect it is a batch problem, due to weather conditions or whatever. No problems at all since the reseal. Radio: I mounted GME GX750 Black Box radio under the sink with handset next to drivers seat, seems to work well. Trim tabs: Have decided on Bennett Bolt 12x12. Install next week. Happy boating all. 114deg F here today! so I'm staying on land.

Where are you guys nameing your boats. Are you all running with the side Merry Fisher Striping? Are you using a small part of the transom? Or has anyone been tempted to remove the Merry Fisher striping and name on aft quarters. Did you regret taking the stripes off.
Thanks JB

I have a question regarding the fuel tank and more specifically the suction pipe up the fuel pump . I have a MF755 and when doing about 5-7 knots the boat is rising at the front. The suction pipe in the tank is mounted in the forward part of the tank so when there is about 1/4 fuel (that's almost 70 litres) left the fuel goes to the back of the tank when the boat is rising and therefor no fuel gets to the fuel pump. Anyone else experiecing the same problem? Any solutions to the problem?

Hi pezlin,
Not a problem experienced on my SO30i, though very rough conditions in shallow water where the waves are closely spaced can sometimes cause similar fuel problems. The usual solution to the problem you have described is to have the fuel pickup at the back of the tank. This does not mean the tank entry has to be at the back, the pickup pipe inside just does not have to go straight down.
It might be worth carefully removing the entry flange and seeing how yours is arranged. Do it when the fuel level is well down, certainly less than half. Check with your mechanic what sealant or new gasket you might require to ensure it is properly sealed again afterwards, to avoid leakage when the tank is full. If it goes straight down, have a look at how you might modify the pipe inside the tank to place the pickup point at the back.
While you are there, check if there is any water at the bottom of the tank which could cause a similar problem even with a rear pickup.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and am in the process of acquiring a 755. I am hopeful that I can mount roofracks to the boat for a roofbox and solar panel, and see that a few of you have put roof racks on your boats. The roof panel seems quite thin and I was wondering if you could detail what you did to mount the rails?
Any info or pictures of the outcome would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I posted this on the 895 thread as well. For those wondering about options and prices for the Jeanneau 795, this U.K. Dealership has a website with a boat configurator that has prices. It's is GBP but if you convert it to USD, it should give you a rough idea of what the prices of the options are. www.cambrianboats.com/new-boats/jeanneau/merry-fisher/342/merry-fisher-795/Captain Ron, your posts have been really helpful. Thanks! I'm in the Seattle area and my wife and I have been looking at picking between the 795 and the 895 for our first boat. Did you consider the 895 as well before you got the 795? Other than budget/price, were there any other reasons for picking the 795? Thanks again!

Hi Odo, I just posted a response on your post on the 895 thread. For me the 795 was mostly use versus price given I was looking for versatility; fishing, cruising, and trialering. As I mentioned, the 895 is better for longer cruises in my opinion because of the larger sleeping berth and a larger head where I could actually stand up (I'm 6'1") and more storage and sleeping space. One thing we did to make sleeping more comfortable was we picked up a king size cool memory foam mattress from Costco and cut it to fit the sleeping berth. Much better night sleep!
We are looking to make our first trip to the San Juan's this summer and I'm sure I will want to upgrade to an 895 after that trip, and I'm also sure my wife will be a big influence to that as well. My biggest hesitation is I do a lot of fishing (some catching as well😉), and the 795 with my kicker and autopilot is a great setup and easy to maneuver sharper turns when trolling.
I would highly recommend for anyone getting or having a 795 to add a mid ship cleat. I use it as my primary line with a 25' line, which I also loop it to my bow cleat for longer term docking. Makes docking so much easier! Oh yeah, don't forget the fender covers which will help keep the scuffing down on the blue hulls.
Good of luck on your decision.
Cheers, Ron

Thanks Ron! The 795 is a great boat but I did find the head a little too small too. You'd have to be less than 5'2 to stand up in it.
Btw, did anyone get their 795s with forced air heating from the factory? Or was it installed by the dealer? If you did, which brand/model is it?

I've got a heater installed, a 4KW Webasto with 3 outlets. Webasto will be the standard brand from next year I was told (I think it has been Eberspracher until now).

Hi Nanus,
Sorry for for the delayed response, I have not been on the forum yet this year. Happy New Year to all!
First off, congratulations on your purchase of your 795, you won’t be disappointed. Also looks like you have a nice list of options and equipment. I’ll take some photos and get them posted of the additional cup holders and speaker placement. I have 4 speakers, two in the cabin and two for the back deck.
Are you having the options installed or are you going to do the work? The reason I ask is you selected the hydraulic trim tabs and based on when I installed my electronic tabs, I would not have been able to access the inside back of the transom to attach the hose connector unless I pulled the cover to the fuel tank, which is why I went with the electric which are working great. Just a follow up note on the Bennett Autotrim controller, while I like using the auto feature it is a bit quirky and inconsistent. I need to follow up with Bennett to work out those issues.
Cheers, Captain Ron

I was thinking more combo Flood and spot in front and and the LED bar is actually waterproof etc. and instead using a Halogen spot and just wondering if someone have a similar fitting. i have been using Osram Led Bar on my old boat and works better than halogen spot.

Nanus 18, what type of lights do you need? For my 695... I purchased an LED light bar for over the sink, a couple of LED blue floor lights for the salon and the cockpit, a bus bar, wiring, connectors, etc. Its everything needed to install lights on 695 or 795. Then I decided to get an 895 before installing the lighting. And my 695 is sold. If anyone is interested I'll give you a heck of a deal on the lighting stuff just to see it get installed.

Oh yeah, one more important add. I added a midship cleat on the both sides which is really nice. The dealer installed pop out retractable cleats so it doesn't get in the way of the gunwale and keep the sleek look to the boat. I'd like to add midship cleats as well to my 695.. Do you have a picture of them mounted ? Trying to imagine where to place them.. Thanks
