Hi!
Just wondering if anyone knows the standard wheel size for the 36i? I know it is a Lewmar Commodore, 5 spoke but not sure if it is a 36 or 40 inch. Our boat is in a charter fleet so I cannot simply run down to the dock to measure and I want to sew on a new hide cover when I am there next.
I am pretty sure it is not the optional 1200mm wheel.
Cheers

The wheel on my 36i is about 44 inches. I don't know if that's was an optional extra, I'm not the original owner. I wish it was a few inches larger which would make it more comfortable to drive while sitting on the windward coaming. There's about three inches of clearance between the wheel and the floor. In a perfect world Lewmar would make a 48" folding wheel.

The wheel that came on my 36i was also 44 inches. I replaced it with a 48 inch. I keep a wrench in the propane locker and easily remove it when I need extra room in the cockpit and tie it inside the bimini frame. The extra size helps since we like to steer from the sides.

Managed to get to the boat and measured the wheel for a new leather cover. The wheel diameter measured at 44.5 inches with a 1 inch rim diameter. Agreed, a 48 inch wheel would be perfect.

Hi, I also have a 36i and again the same problem, steering from the sides seems a very uncomfortable mission, I'm missing some inch to be able to hold it :)so I would be happy to change to a bigger wheel. Blueeyes, so I understand that you changed yours for a 48 inch Commodore one right? Does it bring the additional steering from the sides?? does It fit well? Is it still possible to move in the cockpit without having to jump the seats?
Thank you very much Regards JB

I saw on a French boat this summer a really neat tiller type extension that was built for wheels, It locks in place, across the diameter when not in use. Did a quick search but can't see who makes it - it is like (I would say better) than this similar one from Forespar www.forespar.com/products/boat-steering-arm.shtml
