Hello everybody and thanks for letting me in on this forum this is my first post here.
I am thinking of buying a SO45.1 or a 45.2 as i think they seem to be great sailboats.
But what are the main differentials between the models they look very similar to me.

Welcome to the forum. I can't say what the differences are, but I have a 45.2 and believe it is a great boat in that it is well built and my 3 stateroom layout works perfectly .... exceptional owners fore and very reasonable guest cabins aft. I've owned several boats before and I can't imagine ever swapping this for any other boat. Purchased for a fair price, they are an exceptional value IMHO.

You can find detailed specifications on the Jeanneau website (http://previousboats.jeanneau.com/2007/index.cfm?r=gamme&p=famille&id_type=1&ancien=1Sun%20Odyssey) and basic specifications on the Jeanneau Owners website (http://www.jeanneau-owners.com or click the home button above). Looks like the layout is the same in each. They are great boats and you will find plenty of good information on this forum and at the J. Owners site. Rob

The forward Owners cabin design is different. In the 45.1, the berth offset to port and the shower is separate from the head. In the 45.2, the berth is central and the head/shower are combined.

Watch for mast step compression. We just bought one 45.2 and saw 30 others before buying this one. Several others we saw before had all the mast step compressed. Last week I repaired it, there are 6 little planks of wood inside the deck, some of them were wet and become a little soft because of water entering via the wrongly/bad installed radarcable. Also the aluminium maststep is hollow in the middle so the complete load of the mast comes at some 48 square cm. I replaced the wooden insert with an home made epoxy plate from about 25 x 45 cm with 15 layers of glasfiber and filled the other space with epoxy mix with glassballs (0,001 mm) I left the mix in liquid form so it runs in all the little holes and filled it up completely until the original level. I is not a difficult job but you need to remove the mast and because I was using epoxy mix you don't have to work very fast, the mix takes about an hour to start gelling. To check if compression is there, remove the small ceiling cover at the sb side of the mast and check if the 4 bolts arround the mast support are loose. Also look sharp for cracks in the deck (outside) around the mast foot. Look also for cracks at the main bulkhead at the lowerside of the door to the front cabin. There will be cracks when people are grounded hard with the keel. Look for water in the stringers where cables are running trough the holes. if yes the wood inside will be rotten. Look for rust at the bearing holders from the rudder, you can inspect it by removing the emergency rudder plate and look inside with a lantern and poke with a screwdriver. Some are completely rusted with holes. if so if so, the frame should be removed and repaired. there are pictures elswher in this forum about this, ( SO45.1 & SO45.2 rudder bearing issue) I have pictures from most of my actions.
