Greetings,
My 2004 Jeanneau SF37 (15/16th fractional) has a unique (to me) jib and spinnaker halyard arrangement/design. It has one jib halyard that exits the mast immediately under the forestay. It has two spinnaker halyards that are masthead rigged but drop down and are constrained by a ring on either side of the forestay. My problem is when I want to change headsails during a race is that I have to use one of the spinnaker halyards for the new headsail. I've been getting quite a lot of chafe where the halyard has to flip over the forestay from tack to tack when I'm using one of the spinn halyards. Not to mention the problems of getting the halyards twisted and not being able to drop a sail....don't ask!
The solution is add another sheave under the forestay so I have two dedicated headsail halyards. The I can fly my spinnakers off the masthead. My question: Has anyone done this and what problems have they faced? I've been told that a good rigger could do it without pulling the mast. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Rod Merry Blade Runner SF 37
