We have bought an '01 37' SO. She is 200 miles away from us so i cant test this myself. We are contemplating adding a Lewmar folding wheel, and I may have an excellent deal on one.
Specs say......."Fits Morse Taper Shaft and 1" Parallel Shaft." Does anyone know if the shaft on the 37' SO matches this?
Thank you!

Just to chip in here - I thought about buying one last season - but the cost was very high and it didn't fit mine anyway (we have a SO34.2 - with guimot (spelling?) gear).
So with great pride, I bought a really handy allen key and remove the 5 or 6 bolts when at anchor and attach it to the rails.
4euro fix - me likey.
(I know I have to re-attach it if something happens/emergency etc)

I purchased a 42 inch Lewmar folding wheel a week ago. On my SO35 the wheel is a Goiot. To make the folding Lewmar work, you have to install a shim on the taper shaft. The original nut was covered by a custom machined cap.
If on your boat you have the Goiot wheel and require the size of the shim I had made, please feel free to contact me.

Did anyone successfully install a Lewmar folding steering wheel on a Goiot steering pedestal? I have a ‘02 SO37 and am considering doing this. Thanks

Just swapped out the original wheel with a 36” Lewmar folding wheel. Fit perfectly! Easy 15 minute job! The wheel is made for a 25mm tapered, keyed shaft which is exactly what is on my boat. Looking forward to more easily getting around wheel while docked/anchored!

I did the same a few boats back. Was a great upgrade. Yes it was a 25mm / 1in size which fitted perfectly.

Did anyone successfully install a Lewmar folding steering wheel on a Goiot steering pedestal? I have a ‘02 SO37 and am considering doing this. Thanks I purchased a Lewmar Kit. My installer says this kit is missing the 52519 switch, and cannot be installed as is, it needs either the helm switch 52519 or a foot remote, neither of which is included in the kit. He confirmed this with Lewmar in CT So after about a week I am still waiting foir the switch, and a complete installation. I'll update when its done.

Hi Jannie
What is your boat model/year? do you have the full list of parts you got? where did you buy it from? I am looking at Defender or Amazon
I am also toying with the idea (the admiral saw it in another boat and she liked it...)
Cheers

Apologies for the delayed reply…just became aware of posting.
Anyway…if I’m not mistaken, the 2 available model numbers offer 1) just the tapered hub which is what I needed to fit the existing tapered shaft or 2) the tapered hub and a second non-tapered hub to fit a non-tapered shaft.
I would say that you should be able to order the slightly cheaper model with just the tapered shaft hub, but may not be a bad idea to verify that your shaft is actually a tapered shaft prior to ordering. Should be easy to do. The locking nut was easily removed as well as the original wheel hub using a gear puller. Just be careful to retain the shaft key so that all can be reassembled once you verify your shaft.
Hope this was helpful and good luck! I’ve been enjoying the freedom of movement around the helm very much so far this season!
