For those like to see the sails up but are not sure what to do with them the SO519 now has AST www.jeanneau.fr/brochure/assisted-sail-trimGuess in a few years you could stay at home and let the boat go sailing by itself

One is going to need a BIG AHR battery bank, generator on all the time, or some other kind of DC powering setup to keep the battery(s) charged. I could see this in some wind conditions using a bunch of AHR's if in gusty conditions, higher winds etc.
But frankly, with some of the B&G driver systems out, not surprised this is coming out.

Really....Give me lines, winches (electric preferred) and sails...this is tune to big brother controlling my sailing now....NOT going to happen! I can imagine new sailor getting this and not knowing how to really sail...when it breaks.

Personally I just wish Jeanneau would sort out the poor production quality, and defect rectification prior to leaving the factory than introducing a plastic bowsprit and some whizzy electronics connected to rewind winches, and thinking they have caused a revolution in sailing. i wonder if this will be as reliable as 360 docking? a most sought after feature on the second hand market, not.

I can imagine new sailor getting this and not knowing how to really sail...when it breaks. You know Tafika , in the old days people navigated by the stars , compass and on paper charts , and some still do . I started sailing 7 years ago and I really wouldn't go back to that paper hastlle. Unless all satellites fall down from the sky , My 2 ipads , laptop , and C-map plotter will keep me orientated. What I 'm trying to say is that you can not stop progress , i just love technology but unfortunately don't have the money to buy every gadget that hits the market to make sailing more comfortable and safer. But then I'm not a real sailor and see my boat as a mean of transport to get me from one beatiful anchorage to another. Regards

If this was your idea of sailing pleasure, wouldn't you just buy a launch?
Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should.

Clever, but I am not convinced... To my humble opinion not clever and no good. The boat we see will look broken and half of the sail controls will be out of function. Mr. elec.winch is the king and he have no mercy. Fun of sailing ? Not any more. All those small activities making sails fly are the heart of the sailing fun. Not for me.Sorry........................

I wonder what the safety aspects of this system are? OK if sailing alone but a winch starting by itself could be a source of danger to the unwary. I can see small fingers getting caught between winch and rope. At least with an manual electric system the operator can check and give warnings.

Thankfully, I'll never be able to afford such a thing.

It could be handy for solo sailors on long passages as you can sail a fixed course and have the sails adjusted as the wind direction varies. However, that's not really worth the money it will cost, but if you have more money than sense, then it could be worth it
