Any Jeanneau cruisers here with either the Globalstar SPOT or Iridium YB Tracker?
I am looking at buying something like this and was hoping to find some user experiences.......
Thanks

Had same idea about 3-4 months ago .... I think SPOT is cheaper and have very good coverage around all europe and mist of the world - a friend of mine have one and is happy... Hoppy has some special view and experience about the more expensuve Iriduim I think... personally - I decide to skip the tracker idea for now Currently thinking about 16kg Kobra 2 , additional 20m chain and may be li-ion battery pack and 62lbs electric outboard for my dingly to replace my old Yamaha Malta 2hp

I have a Delorme InReach. The nice thing bout it is you can buy service a month at a time.

Spot is crap for cruisers!!!!!!! Spot does not have global coverage. Spots webpage is hopeless for following someones progress. There is one delivery skipper who's "adventures" I've followed on Spot. You can only see the last 100 positions on the map at any one time so you don't get the full picture. Also, there is no information about speed on the website. It's CRAP!!!!!!!! YB is Iridium and therefore global. I can customise my tracking site to show whatever date range as default. Right now I show all of 2015. This is my site my.yb.tl/Jessabbe On the top left corner where it says 2015, you can select other date ranges or cruises I've defined. Click on any blue dot on my tracks and you can see my speed and course. You could also look at Delorme as it has a neat looking unit and is Iridium, No idea of it's tracking site though. Oh yeah, I forgot.... The YB tracker can be permanently wired up to power with a waterproof connection, Spot cannot. Spot's battery life seems to be several days or perhaps at the most a week if on full time, YB is several weeks. As you can see from the coverage map, it doesn't properly cover the East-West Atlantic crossing. found a Spot tracking cruise www.findmespot.com/spotadventures/index.php/view_adventure?tripid=338105

I found my SPOT lying in a box at the bottom of the wardrobe the other day. I was given it it for solo hillwalking in Scotland but it never really worked for me and I've never bothered with it on the boat. As with Vasko there other 'more important' items to sort out so no tracking other than AIS and Marine Traffic. We are mainly coastal though. Ian

Yes, my preference was already for the YB anyway. Also, as you do not have to pay the months you do not want to use it. Whereas with SPOT you have to pay 12 months.
Thanks....
@vasco: li-ion batteries.......you can buy 5 YB trackers, 1 electric outboard, 20m of chain AND a Kobra anchor for the price of 1!!! These batteries are about the LAST thing I would buy, as (in my case) it requires more than just a li-ion battery to change over.

We use a DeLorme InReach, been pretty good so far. I like the fact we can message / post to FB from anywhere with it. Here's what the tracker page looks like www.simonandcatesworld.com/about-us/now/ (embedded on our blog). The subscription costs are reasonable at $30 AUD per month, which includes 100 tracking points. As hoppy said, uses Iridium so should work anywhere - will let you know once we get to the middle of nowhere...

Hoppy, It seems YB work great you still enjoy Kalamata Haha.... Not in Kalamata now, or at least I'm not but Jessabbe is. Took the advantage of a direct flight to Stockholm to offload a couple of bags of crap I realised should never have taken down. Should have returned tomorrow but will stay here some extra days to interview a crew candidate

We'll be using the DeLorme InReach AG-008727-201 for the Caribbean & South America trip at the end of the year.
