I'm about to buy a Jeanneau 43DS and it doesn't have davits. I've done the Google searching but haven't found any good pics. Does anyone have any suggestions or pics to share.
Thanks, Jason

Try Kato Marine in Annapolis. There are also some posts on the 43DS with davits if you run a search

And I have Garhauer Marine davits on my boat. I really like them. They have the same lifting capacity as the Kato, but at a lot less cost.

We are using Kato pics for the basis of our new arch. Where are you based? There are some good local fabricators around. Ian

I'm in Virginia, USA. I've looked at the Kato but they looked like they might get in the way of the life raft locker.

I have an arch on my 43DS, and use the arch to lift the dinghy. However, if I did not have the arch I would seriously consider installing those C-clips that mount on the stern, down below the back porch on the 43DS, and then just tilt the dinghy up on its side. You would still have to mount the outboard on the stern rail, but the C-clips make launch and recovery of a dinghy quite easy. And, you don't have to worry about it swinging in heavy weather - the dinghy is much easier to secure with the C-clips.
I really like having an arch to hang all the other stuff besides the dinghy, but some people don't, so for them, I think the C-clips would be best. I would not worry about access to the liferaft locker - when you have the dinghy back there and need to abandon ship you will want to launch the dinghy as well, in case the liferaft does not work (not a low-probability event.)

I had those snap on Davits. You had to glue a part to the dingy and it never stayed glued on. I'll like to have mine hanging now.

Jason, Yes you are probably right about the arch getting in the way of the life raft locker. After accessing the situation our life raft is on the Pushpit rail. See discussion about this on another thread on this pro board. When we add our arch, in September, we'll also strengthen the rail. We also looked at snap davits but you need an outboard davit as well if the engine is of any size. We want the outboard on the dinghy when we coastal sail. All things considered the arch was our way to go and now we will add solar panels as well. Ian

Hi Jason We have a 43DS. We really wanted an Arch on her, we have always liked the look of an arch on the back of a monohull plus the functionality of it being able to house the dinghy, radar and solar panels. Our first stop was Kato Marine, OMG!!! Those are nice arches. The best of the best, the polished stainless, the quality in manufacturing, Wow! They were so nice, we toured the whole facility. They have in fact made an arch for a 43DS so they have the template/pattern already in there data base. But!, at a quoted price of $13,500 plus tax, installation not included. Ugh Ugh Ugh. Our next stop/shopping online was Atlantic Towers "Arch in a Box". Called them up, they are very nice too, very helpful and know arches and towers for boats. Out the door including all the brackets, attaching fittings, tax and delivery was around $2200:-). The delivery company delivered it right to the marina. It took me and my wife about 8 hours to install it. I have sailed more then 1500 miles with the dinghy on the arch (15hp Yamaha motor on dingy too) with no problems. We even installed the radar antenna on it. Solar panels will come later. Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to contact me Scott Attachment Deleted

One other thought. My arch is from Kato, made back when it was a bit more affordable (~$8K), and I had it installed in Annapolis, just down the street from the Kato offices - they helped do the installation there, so it was pretty painless. I also had the life raft locker removed to install a genset, so I don't have the issue about the dinghy blocking the liferaft.

Scott. That's very nice. Do you have any pics with the dingy hanging?

Sorry for all the posts but only one pic will fit in each post....... The final thing I had to do to really secure the arch from swaying at all was attach it to the stern rail with some brackets. It is very solid! Hope this helps.

One suggestion, if you do get an arch, and you have the opportunity to specify the mounting points at build time -
BUY MORE MOUNTING POINTS THAN YOU THINK YOU MIGHT EVER NEED, BECAUSE EVENTUALLY YOU WILL NEED THEM ALL
I specified the windmill mount, two tube extensions, a rear step light, two attachment rings for the dinghy and two cleats(I already had the lifting tackle), a lifting crane for the engine, and two more rings to tie things off. Also about 4 special holes to lead wires out of the arch to stuff on top. I should have added 4 more extension tubes coming out the top and a few more rings to tie off to.The two tube extensions were taken up by the AIS antennas and I had to figure out a way to put the WiFi antenna somewhere else.
