I specified a Flex-a-Fold prop for my DS. It has worked perfectly and is superior to my previous Gori, Martec and Max. The difference may be that mine is a 3 blade which perhaps eliminates the issue he experienced.

I have a 3 blade flexofold, jeanneau wanted euro4000 I got mine direct from Denmark for less than half that and now have a spare, never used original propellor. Just hauled the boat and it says on the blades 20 14 3L, 20inch dia 14.3 pitch left hand I guess, boat is a 50DS. it works ok in reverse but appears very good in fwd, does over 9kts flat out even with the 75hp engine that is the only option (used to be 100 or 110hp), I guess due to stricter emissions.
i guess not all props work with all boats, PEV, cavitation and now folding ability are all affected by hull/ appendages.
regards

To confirm ABGREENBAVK, my 50 DS does about 9.25 kts fwd (110 hp engine). Had to pay approximately $2900 for it. The only difference with the 110 is that it will plow through a chop with less reduced speed. The Max prop was better in reverse, but less efficient in fwd. Never fails to open fully and is smooth. Also will stop the vessel quickly if need be.

Weird problem. Would be interesting to know whether there is a fault in the prop or something about the boat it's fitted on. My 3 blade FoF is no problem in reverse. I would be interested to see how much mine opens up in reverse when tied up. It will be a battle between the Centrifugal force and the water pressure pushing the blade

I have been changing back and forth between a 16" three blade variprofile feathering prop and the 16" three blade flexifold which came with our so379. The feathering prop is significantly better in reverse - engaging immediately at low rpm's and providing immediate control. The flexifold needs to be booted immediately over 1000rpm's to establish bite and even then is slower to respond. Once underway in reverse, everything is fine. In forward, the flexifold requires a hit of rpm at the outset to get it working properly, but then outperforms the variprofile in speed both under sail and power and has more torque - less affected by dinghy towing under power. I'm selling the variprofile.

Not that feathering props are without their own problems, but this is a good example of why I prefer feathering over folding.

I have been always puzzled why the flexofold opens in reverse and what is keeping it open ... the Elice-Radice has a special cut on the top border of the blades to keep the prop open on reverse and prevent the reverse problems -

Never had a problem with my Flex-o-fold whilst it's been on the boat

all problems that I have seen are with the 2B flex-o-fold's

I have a 3 blade FOF and it opens in reverse at idle a bit slowly but one can still feel it. You just have to anticipate it by a second or two.

I put a 3-blade Flex-o-Fold on my 2013 45DS equipped with 360 docking at the beginning of this season (June 2015). I had two seasons with the fixed prop and, with the FoF, the boat is light years better. I can motor at 8 knots at 2,000 RPM and the boat handles better when docking. The prop does occasionally bang open when going into reverse but Jeanneau and FoF assured me this is not a problem as the FoF has elastomeric bumpers to attenuate the shock. The FoF also negates the freewheeling of the fixed prop when sailing at speed.
