I notice on marine traffic that you show up as "AIS Type: Unspecified". Could you not set it to "sailing vessel" when configuring it?

I suspect that manufacturers expect that if you are transmitting AIS, then the transmitter is also the receiver so your transmission is not a problem. The only exception will be the AIS equipped VHF. So no alarm setting on the Garmin for you

Just left *****pcola - great place, but awfulf for mooring no depth in the harbour and no depth for anchoring , only viable anchoring in the entrance but there are about a million ! fishing ships and one almost hit me in 2am... managed to swing about 30cm from my ort side ! he was not looking where hus boat was going ! I didn't get much sleep after that ... and in my way to L'Ampolla now., www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/oldshipid:3424751/oldmmsi:235103371/zoom:10/olddate:2015-05-07%2004:39I anchored about 50-60 meters from the digue e.g quite away from the entrance channel... and one more fishing boat jut pass imediatly behind me and broke my fishing line and I need to change it now - I'm sure it was deliberatly...

Hi Vasco following on from you I am now a crab pot marker owner any hints or tips on setting it up - thanks it looks like a good bit of kit for the money use a old version of windows as the usb to COM is not working on Windows 8 the software is very simple just set MMSI, boat name, with and lengh (looks like only full numbers are possible e.g 10 x 4 ) keep the Main MMSI ( it is for different thing empty type the password - SET and all is good the battery seems to last definetly more then a week - I think about 2+ weeks I'm still not sure do I want the voltage to be shown after the name ot not - currently my one shows the voltage - if you want to remove it talk with the suplier - there is a magic setting that does the job I'm very happy with mine so far just completed about 500nm cost hopping from Alicante to France/St Cyprien

If one of the purposes of your crab pot is to allow family, friends and forum lurkers to follow you, then perhaps you should dump the voltage so we can save you on the tracking site rather than having to search by MMSI each time

Ok, just now pissed off with an AIS target that disturbed my relaxation by entering my safety zone. The target will appear on my MFD for perhaps 30 seconds and then disappear for 2 or 3 minutes. As a result it kept setting off my alarm.
It appears as type "unknown", no name, call sign or anything else that is programmed normally into a transponder, other than MMSI..
It has me wondering if it is another crab pot sailor. It makes sense that a battery operated transmitter designed for a stationary object would shut down its transmitter to save battery.
I could see that on the bridge of a ship in poor visibility that they might assume it is a stationsry crab pot and if they are not going to run over its current position, either turn off the alarm or even the class B RX

It was very movable....
Do you know how often yours transmits? It could be less often than a normal class B as it's designed for a static object.
On my RM unit i cannot change the transmit frequency.

For those who, like me, didn't know the difference between class A and class B, there is a nice chart detailing the differences at this link.

When the vanishing yacht was on my AIS I took a photo of the screen and I can see they were doing 6.1 knts, so they should have been transmitting every 30 seconds. Maybe Vasko should do a test. Either find someone with an AIS receiver or change his, so his crab pot does appear on it. Then change the transmit rate to see if at a certain interval it starts dropping out.

Let me know what you want me to test and I will test generally currently the only issue that I can see with the crab pod AIS is the COG and SOG - they are wrong most of the time... and I'm waiting for new mainboard with new software from the producer to fix the issue... but to be honest my ST GX2100 MATRIX AIS is more worrying as it show not may ships around and I'm wondering is all OK with it... e.g. better brand do not mean better quality.. in the end..
