We are looking to convert our SO40 to the Owners Version layout (mostly to accommodate a washer/drier would you believe? (some things you just have to surrender to)), and I am wondering if anyone who is on here that has an Owners version, can clue me in to how you access the space in what, on our boat at least, is the Starboard quarter berth. Does the locker under the starboard seat go all the way down to the boards over the fuel tank? Is the locker sealed as in the port locker? Can anyone supply photo's?
Also looking for measurements of the counter top in the galley.
The carpentry work will probably be done by the same outfit that have just finished re-furb'ing the rest of the interior (at least that way it will all match), but other than re-locating the bulkhead and following the line of the existing cabinets and counter top, the rest of the measurements will be pure guess work unless someone is happy to share the info.
We have the indents in the existing liner to see where the new bulkheads should go, including the one that makes the Port quarter berth into a much bigger berth (we're happy in the V berth though). The idea of a much larger locker is very appealing, along with the idea of installing a decent gen set.
Appreciate any help you all can offer.
Cheers, PT

Why convert to the owners version if you are happy with the V-berth? Why not leave the layout the same but convert one of the aft cabins to the laundry/storeroom. Maybe you could even add the bulkhead and still have a single berth.
No idea on the access, but looking at the layout in the manual suggests that that it must be accessed only from the cockpit.
Personally if I needed to add a washer/dryer, I'd convert the forward head into laundry.
I will be curious to see what the OV was like. I don't recall ever noticing one when I was looking for mine

Hi Hoppy, Effectively converting that aft Starboard Cabin makes it into the Owners Version. i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff394/Paul_Truscott/1768836_9.jpgWe are quite happy with His & Hers heads. I sacrifice the His one when we have guests aboard. The washer/drier would be up against the engine box, with an Engel freezer in the corner, leaving a small cupboard alongside the stove. Moving the bulkhead aft also makes the main cabin seem a lot bigger. The grooves in the liner allow for re-siting the cabin divider allowing for the Port cabin to have a bigger berth. i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff394/Paul_Truscott/1822152_12.jpgAnd as I said earlier, the extra space should provide a decent sized locker, but so far I haven't seen how people access it. I suspect that the cockpit seat locker floor has been opened up, but would like to see that confirmed (I am not sure that you could access this area from the lazzarette). Not sure if I've worked out how to include pics in this post, so apologies if it isn't showing up. Cheers, PT

Other than cutting the bottom out of the locker, the only other way it looks like you could access that space would be to build doors into the new bulkhead. I can imagine it would feel VERY scary to cut the locker without first finding an owners version to compare with

Found a pic of the locker, sort of, on Banyan's site. Seems that the whole locker opens up into the space. Judging by the way in which he is in the locker, it would seem the whole locker is cut away under the seat. ie; there is no forward/left hand side as you face it, nor is there a floor by the look of it. If that's the case, looks like we can get our MTB's in there! Sweet. PT

Will you go for a full on owners version copy with the galley or will you make your own version.
If I was in "your boat", as you are happy with the V-berth (which I am too) I would look at leaving the port cabin as is and use the whole starboard cabin. If you are adding a generator, then it can be mounted closer to the center line.
Actually thinking about it, I'd leave the galley and cabin door as is. Place a freezer and washer/dryer in the cabin with easy access (also making a work bench where the cupboard is (either freezer or washer under) and seal off the rest of the locker, but add an access door (still make the locker access) from the cabin which may not make it practical to use to climb in, but allow you to grab gear that's stored forward. Put the generator up against the bulkhead and as forward as possible.
It will give you more storage options and it won't matter that you did not make the aft cabin bigger
