I just got a 42ds and I plan to race occasionally. Does anyone know the PHRF rating for Jeanneau's about this size, particularly if the 43ds has a PHRF rating. Thx.

All boats have a PHRF rating. Withthat in mind, if you go to www.phrf-nw.org/index.htm, granted the NW USA division, there is a PDF file you can download with how to figure your rating. I am not positive if it is the same rating everywhere or not, I believe there are some regional variations, but not a lot. If you are a 175 like my Aradia is in the NFS or non flying sail division, I would not change much when going to other areas of the US. IIRC about +/- 5 pts or so. With a spinnaker I am in the 130 range. TO figure your PHRF rating, you will need measurements of the boat, ie length, WL, Disp, sail area of main and largerst head sail, spinnaker etc. It is all written out in the PDF form you down load. Thanks. I'm not sure what pdf you refer to. I have submitted an application to PHRF So Cal with the measurements, and NW appears to use the same form. Your help is appreciated.

Steve,
I was refering to the downloaded PDF file NW has for the app. I would assume So Cal has the same PDF or maybe a word file.

Just got a provisional rating for 42 DS in PHRF. They rated it 102, which is slightly faster than a Beneteau 423 or Catalina 42. But as it is based on performance, not measurement, and my boat is the first 42 DS to get a rating, take it for what it is worth. I will be racing from San Diego, CA to Ensenada, Mexico later this month with 500 of my favorite crews, so we will get some test as to whether we can get this cruiser to sail.
