My 2 partners and I are in the process of purchasing a 42i and need to obtain an inflatable dingy to store in the stern locker for this purpose. I have found an inflatable dingy which is 3'8" long, 2' wide, 1'1" high when folded. Unfortunately, the boat is several hundred miles away at the moment, and we have not been able to get the dimensions from other sources. Can anyone advise on this? Thanks much.

Hi, I will be visiting my 42i at the weekend and will happily measure the lockers and let you know if you have not found out the dimensions before then. Are you referring to the the stern locker in the centre that is sometimes called the liferaft liocker?
Are you buying a liferaft or an inflatable dinghy to use as a tender?
If you are buying a liferaft, I would recommend you get one that can be mounted either in a basket on the pushpit or on the coach roof that will self deploy should the worse happen.. The so called liferaft locker is difficult to access from the cockpit and you would probably need to stand on the step at the back to lift out a heavy liferaft. It's not the best place to stand and struggle with the liferaft if you were in rough seas.
My 2.7m long Seago inflatable dinghy will not fold up small enough to fit in the liferaft locker but I did manage to get it in the port side stern locker once, which is cavernous in size. It was a struggle to get it out again though due to the weight of the dinghy and the restricted opening at the top so I gave up on that idea and now store my fenders in there instead. The dinghy stays inflated and either hangs on the stern or on the foredeck.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I am talking about the stern locker in the center. We are looking at an inflatable dingy, not a life raft.
When I looked at the stern locker at the time we were initially inspecting the boat, I thought it was small, and also any water in the cockpit drains through this locker, I believe. If so, we need to be careful about what to store there.
If you can get the measurements, that would be very helpful.
