I had a 50Ah Red Top for 10 years on the CT80 and it was fine and gave enough power. Now the same again, but still wishing I had the CT100 with 2 red tops.
The key to a long lasting battery is the charging. I have two ways of charging the dedicated bowthruster battery: via the engine alternator (using the anchor winch cables), as well as the battery charger when connected to land power.
Normally people come into a marina, bowthrust away and turn the engine off. So the battery has been used heavily and then all is turned off. So if you only have alternator engine charging to your bowthruster battery, it will die in a matter of a few years. Best to have the battery charger charge that battery too. Or a simple and cheap trickle charger will do the trick too.
