Am buying a so 40. Year 2000 engine hours 1400. Did an oil analysis prior to buying. Deal closes August 12 th. Yarmar engine water and glycol found in oil. Plan is to ask present owner to change oil and filters and run engine for 20 hrs and then retest. I am hoping there is nothing more than the present owner screwed up when changing the oil and all is well. Is this a problem with this engine Any other thoughts on how to handle this problem and any other common problems that could be causing this problem Thanks sta n

Hi Allora
First and foremost I would not trust the owner to run the engine for twenty hours unless you are able to check the hour meter prior and after the test has been run, how would you know if he changes the oil after 19 hours of the running...?. how many parts per million of contamination are there...? Sounds like a head gasket issue or maybe something more sinister, I think I would call on a professional at this stage if you are still keen to purchaser or should you wish to continue the purchase, have the sale price dropped by, say 1/2 the cost of a reconditioned motor...?
This advice is only my view and maybe not great advice but is how I would proceed, good luck with your choice.
Regards
Stephen
