I had not seen my Jessabbé since October last year, so I had planned to make Easter my first visit to her and sail. On last Wednesday I arrived at Gouvia marina and got to her and she was looking great. The free board was nicely polished, the teak deck cleaned. I knew that underwater the seacoks had been placed, aintfouling sanded back to the gelcoat, resealed and a couple of fresh coats. There were guys on the boat finishing the roller install after the forestay was replaced and the sails were already on, so suddenly I had more time for being out on the water. Perfect I thought The it all went to hell. I tripped whilst carrying one of my bags onboard, landing badly fracturing my patella (knee cap) Ouch... Then I spent the easter moving between hospitals in Corfu, Athens and now Sweden. Waiting still for an operation so I can start my 6 week recovery countdown. :-( Attachment Deleted

Thanks Oucchhh! I feel for you. Guess you didn't hobble down to Port Police to enquire about the new cruising tax then!! Funnily no... I was never going to ask them.... If things went as planned I probably would have gone there for a stamp and pretend there was no tax.... Oucchhh! Getwell soon. Will be in the North Ionian September time. Buy you a Mythos! It's a deal.... I remember seeing a big Mythos sign at one of the airports and though d**n, I missed Mythos time

Sorry to hear that, Hoppy - at least it's at the start of the season so you still have a good chance to get over it and do some sailing later this year. Good luck!

I nearly went over the side of my scaffolding last Sunday while cleaning Voyageur's port side hull, above the waterline, in preparation for her launch on 5 May. I suddenly lost my balance, and a similar fate was saved only by a quick grab of a port stern rail stanchion. Even on the hard, "one hand for yourself; one hand for the boat" is sage advice!
The ice finally melted sufficiently to open our marina a week ago, two weeks later than the "nominal" opening date and the first time that said date has been missed in many years. Not all docks are open yet ... and there's no water service to most docks, including ours. So the annual power-washing of the seagull and Canadian goose excrement, built up on the finger piers over the winter, may not happen until our boats are in their slips, a most unfortunate situation! There are two sailboats in place on our dock as of today, both of whom don't clean/polish/wax their hulls and/or paint their bottoms annually. Cheaters!

Something is changing for sure , no point in denying. Regards

thanks again for the comments... The accident happened on the Wednesday, I made Sweden on Monday, finally had the operation on Wednesday evening and was home Friday lunchtime. Not having the accident "at home" cost me nearly a week of recovery time. Sorry if this grosses people out, but here is the end result Attachment Deleted

And I thought having keyhole surgery for a hernia in February was bad!
Think next week when I am also on scaffolding polishing I will wear my lifejacket!
With a safety line suitably rigged to prevent a fall onto the hard stuff!
Get well soon.

How's the knee conning on now? It's getting there. Still in a brace for a couple more weeks. What's sucking is that right now Jessabbé is currently cruising the Ionian without me My father and uncle are on board at them moment. I should have been there now as well. To make it worse I can follow them because of the Yellowbrick tracker and that just makes it worse. I'm hoping I will go down late June but for now I dont know how mobile I'll be and if I'll be up for soloing
